Am an open water diver and was certified in 1996.

Last dive was in 1998.

I guess 10 years is probably too long a break !

Keep us posted on next dive trip and if I can break away from the work schedule, will most certainly try to join the group.

Regards

Raj

Bro, I heard a lot of good reviews from friends who went for the live on board dive... No prob... You can decide it when the time comes as far as I know the boat moves around depending on the season... Don't have to worry about Monsoons...

I wonder how many members are divers? I have a close friend who is a certified Rescue Diver and would be able to give us advise on diving, including diving trips, diving stuff, getting license, etc.

There are a lot of differences in each individual courses... My guess is that you do not have any diving license yet am I right? If that is the case, then you should just start off by taking the open water course. That is the basic license you need for diving... Hope this helps

No matter how you still need to pass the open water first in order to be able to dive legally... As for Open water dive license, you can only dive to a certain limit/depth (if I am not mistaken 20 meters).. where else with Advance (which is 1 step after Open water) you can dive deeper and also do night diving... Sorry a bit rusty here... can anyone else chip in... biggrin.gif

Open Water License, teaches you the basic things you need to know about diving, diving gears and basics on what to do in an emergency underwater...... A lot comes from experience when you continue to dive....
dantot

Yes......you need to take the 'open water' course first as Hotman mentioned........I've had my PADI open water license at Pulau Perhentian.......cost me RM1400......4 days 3 nights........you will be given a book and dive chart.......so you need to read and understand the basic things about diving.........there will be written exam that you need to pass......don't worry the question is very easy.......after the theory then it is time to hit the water.......you will be practising all that you've learned in the water.......for the fist time maybe it is difficult......especially the bouyancy control......after that you'll enjoyed it.

For person who are 50:50 about taking diving license.......I advice you try the 'Discovery dive' first........it cost about RM200-250.........you will be watching a short video 30 min duration about diving and then you will be teach a few basic technic of diving........after that the dive master will take you underwater......up to 10 meter.......and don't worry the DM (dive master) will assist you during the dive. So .....after that dive you can made decision wether to proceed or not with the diving license.
After I had my discovery dive.......wahhh......I fall in love with diving........I arranged for a 4 days leave and got my open water license.......next thing I notice I bought my own scuba gear......and went to the Divers Paradise in Disember last year.......Sipadan-Mabul-Kapalai island........goshhhh so beautiful.......wish can stayed there for a month

Next month I planned to take the 'advance licence'........that mean I can dive deeper up to 30-40 meters and can do night dive.........yahooo.

First Open water is up to 60 ft. advance is up to 80ft. recreational dive is only allowed up to 120 ft.

The first course wil teach u the hand signal used during diving. the imporatnce of 'buddy' system, the danger of diving, identifying ur equipment. (What is BCD- Bouyancy Control Device), regulator etcc...

There will be a pre test.. swimming up to 200 meter. and treading water up to 10 minutes.

Just take any PADI (Pay And Dive Instantly(cant really remember)) or NAUI (Not Another Underwater Idiot).. biggrin.gif

Let the fun begins. laugh.gif laugh.gif

maybe we should have a diving trip..hmmmm.

Rev = offtopic.gif
And I think you have confused the topic with your "backseat" one, lar, Rev-o...wink.gif

Ok, swimming and treading water is not a problem for me...But is it better to get lessons where a dive school takes u diving in the sea or only at the swimming pool? I saw a PADI (is there such a thing as an affiliated school?) dive school at Sunway Pyramid which has a swimming pool...blink.gif
Reverend
I play play a bit only here. Honestly, I know how to swim all styles, courtesy of edu at VI which has a swimming pool. I can help if anyone wants free swimming lessons. But only KV folks la, of course.

If swimming and treading water is not a problem for you then there should not be any problem at all... The pools in the dive school are meant for you to learn to handle/adjust your gear underwater... No matter how you will still need to learn all these basic stuff in a pool before going out to sea... Once you know how to maneuver these you will be basically doing these stuff in the open sea... and if you pass them then you can get your open water diving license... Another thing... normally the dive master will pair you up with a partner (they call it buddy system) and you will normally dive in pairs within a group... The dive master will normally be nearby to assist underwater if necessary...

TG... learn to swim first lor.. RG can teach u mah.. u should take the advantage to dive at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and Sipdan/ Mabul. Labuan if i am not mustaken also has a wreck ship. that will also be fun.

The mask is reasonable priced, it's the powered lenses that's expensive - around RM100 per piece
