From my understndg, if u more to DVD, Bluray watching, both also almost d same providing both in d same full HD..
But for normal broadcastg o normal astro, normally plasma give better respond on the display since using a gases as a medium behind d screen, while LCD are liquids..

But nowadays LCD also improved a lot on its response time...so when choose pls understd d spec carefully than just go for d lower prices....and ask d saleman to test on astro than a high defination playback to fool u...

S series just launch last year..tak mungkin la discontinued..BTW, for me plasma is better than LCD as new generation plasma already chop off their previous weaknesses..

thanks bro, how about the durability/life time between LCD and PLASMA?

I thk both give almost d same lifetime, d only thing to be scared is dead pixel problem on d screen...

I 1st bought a plasma on 2004,where tat time no c.mamoth, sengQ or others dare to sell it bcoz of its hi-price. I found only at SengQ pyramid n d cheapest tat time cost me Rm16K for LG plasma..got 2 yrs warantty...but just aftr 2yrs n 1 mths i facing d dead pixel problems, u'll see a line fr top to bottom of screen blinking then spreadg to few line, now i got line 1/4 of d 42" screen..d*mn waranty over ady tat time cant claimd, need to replace d whole screen for Rm5K, so i just bought new plasma, took a 5 yrs waranty and still good until now.

So when buy Slim TV just took additional yrs waranty period for a peace of mind when sumthg happen, dun regret later on like me...

Unbelievable BUT true.....the Pana 42S plasma like you and Infernus bought has been discontinued to be replace by a newer version in March, but still to be called S2 series I think. I dont think anyone can find this model and size anymore in KL cos of the very high demand. If looking for 50" then maybe still available. BTW the S series 42" LCD is going for RM2499 last week at certain shops and RM2799 at Best Denki yesterday.

excerpt regarding new S2 plasma series..

S2 Series
The VIERA S2 series introduces two larger screen sizes to the Panasonic family of Plasma HDTVs, a 58-inch class model (58” measured diagonally) - TC-P58S2 and a 65-inch class model (64.8” measured diagonally) -TC-P65S2. The S2 series is completed with the introduction of four additional screen sizes – the TC-P54S2, a 54-inch class HDTV (54” measured diagonally), TC-P50S2, a 50-inch class HDTV (49.9” measured diagonally), TC-P46S2, a 46-inch class HDTV (46” measured diagonally) and the TC-P42S2, a 42-inch class HDTV (41.6” measured diagonally). Key features of the S2 series include 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, which eliminate traditional HDTV motion blur. The S2 series also includes VIERA Link and the VIERA Image Viewer. Other features include 1080p Full HD resolution, 2,000,000:1 native contrast, 600Hz Sub-field Drive and an anti-reflective filter. The S2 series contains no lead or mercury in the panel and the TVs have a lifespan of 100,000 hours. The S2 series feature Clean Touch bezel,*designed to keep the TV bezel looking its best with less fingerprints.

not really good cos 2 members here bought for RM3200 few months back. But maybe bcos of high demand the price will not budge much.
khusyairi
For an example currently, we can get few branded 42" FullHD for $2K+ which cost $3K early year. During last Hari Raya promotion, I bought for my dad; 50" LG TV just RM3.3K.
Which is the best value brand for LCD/plasma TV? Sony, LG, panasonic etc; which one reliable?
