HD DVD dead liao lo... now is blu-ray technology... 2nd thing, why buy plasma instead of LCD arr... plasma screen got reflection la... if you place near sun light, difficult to watch. Power consumption also damn high compared to LCD TV.

get a PS3 and you can play blu-ray disc lor... recently I bought the "Mr & Mrs Smith" blu-ray movie from Speedy... tell u what, superb image and clarity sound effects!!! the scene where angelina jolie wearing a black lingerie, damn sexy man!!!

astro service is very lousy la!!! charge us so expensive but never improve their service... no HD signal is small issue, rainy day cannot receive signal even make us sad!!!

last time I went to china, all their cable TV is in HD signal ler... awesome!!!

FULL HD is awesome when u on 1080p mode when playing blu-ray.but for normal viewing in non HD mode, not much diff. in HD ready, u need to consider the response time (ms), Hz (samsung now on 120Hz already)

how much is Blu-ray title now?

I've been watching HD movies through my HTPC since 2.5 years ago. not as nice as blu-ray VC1 codec but it's very cost effective way to enjoy HD. movies get through BT or emule. another option is to buy HD HDD/ NMT player like TIVX, Popcon A100, HD-X which plays MKV files up to 1080P.

I have been looking forward to replace my dinosaur 29" CRT for quite sometime now. Been to a couple of electronic shops.

Do you think 42" Philips LCD (HD Ready) is good especially those models with a feature call "HD Natural Motion"? I have been comparing it to Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, etc. When this feature "HD Natural Motion" is ON those fast motion pictures are so smooth comparing to other brands. Even full HD sharp also cannot fight....Not sure I'm blinded by those sales people or is it true?

I recently had a problem with my >5-yo 42" Panny plasma. I'd forgottent o instruct my ex-maid not to wipe/clean the screen and, naturally, she did. The TV has a protective layer over the glass panel. That protective layer FULL of what looks like scratches, damn horrible looking. Images no longer look sharp. So, I'd asked around where to get replacement protective layer but even Panasonic Malaysia said they don't bring it in. So, checked the Net and it was suggested that to clean scratches, try and use car polish. So I did that. Now the scratches are gone BUT the entire screen reflects like a mirror. While picture sharpness has improved but if you even notice the background reflection (= yourself watching the TV, or the lights in the room or whatever), it's annoying. Sigh...

Anyone knows where can get such a protective layer for plasma TVs ah?

last Thursday, while my car was doing PPS Coating at Shine N Shield... my wife asks me to go shopping with her, at last, I bought another 42" LCD TV for my home... miahahah.....

Toshiba REGZA RV500 FULL HD 1080P/24P, 10-bit Color Mastering... haha... RM3,800 only. Damn good price, after collect my car from Shine N Shield at night, cannot tahan anymore, use my own car to transport the 42" LCD TV back to my home because the vendor said tomorrow only can sent to my house.

Once reach home, installed and compared side-by-side with my 1 yr old Sharp Aquos 42" HD Ready LCD... frankly speaking, no different when watching ASTRO... but when I plugged in my PS3 and play my favorite "The Dark Knight" Blu Ray movie... the picture quality is superb! Full HD awesome!!!

Go for it... I can said this RV500 from Toshiba is the most value FULL HD 42" LCD in the market now... go go go ... bro ular_king...

mar pot, my money printing machine broken since 1999. Not like u lah....got new printing machine every year. I actually compared a Full HD LCD with this philips and surprisingly the philips even it is HD Ready looks better and not jerky on fast motion lah...that's why i asked........

tell u what, I sold my Philips 37" FULL HD LCD (Model: 37PFL7482) last Dec 2008 to one of my buddy, owned it for few months only, bought in August 2008... lousy quality until I not daring to tell others that I bought it.

although it claims it is FULL HD, but my Sharp Aquos 42" HD Ready LCD quality also better than it... also got some feature called Pixel HD Plus but really no good la.. at last, I sold it at RM1700.00 to my fren...

different between your so called "HD Natural Motion" Philips 42" LCD and the Toshiba REGZA 42" FULL HD LCD only RM400... no need to think liao... go go go FULL HD!!!

Since the diff. in price as bro dcspeed mentioned is a few hundred bucks only, get yourself a Full HD TV rather than invest in outdated HD-ready technology.
You might not noticed any diff. in the lousy Astro broadcast resolution, but let say you upgrade your source in future to Blu-Ray or even change your DVD player to a better player than can upconvert the vidoe to 1080P, wou will notice the improvement.

I know Philips always try to play up their so called "Pixel Plus" and in your case "HD Natural Motion" but for me, I'd never fall for their gimmick as I found that their image is not to my liking.
At home we've 37" Phillips Full-HD (not mine) and my 42" Sharp Full-HD and we all agreed that the image from the Sharp is way much better than Philips when watching blu-ray, upscaled DVD or HD-broadcast.
Having said that, both TVs are about 2 yrs old, so might be a little bit unfair to compare with the latest generation of full-HD TV which nowadays comes with 100/120Hz and 24p, among others.

So, go for full-HD lor...
