I'm looking for PLASMA 50" TV Japanese.
The cheapest so far I got is Hitachi 50A 01A at rm7,999.00
Any one knows cheaper within Klang Valley, let me know!

If any of u buying LCD/ Plasma maybe we can buy together and bulk purchase?!
Better price lo! every rm count, can go to GT mod.
terion
nik u sure u wanna get a 50" PLASMA ar? at that size the pixel would probably be the size of a pin head with current plasma resolution (852x480)

unless u plan to put it outdoors like those in the stadium, for indoors a 42/47" LCD with Full HD (1920x1080) is much better and clearer compared to plasma...and u can play blur-ray/hd-dvd movies at full 1080p resolution! thumbsup.gif

I saw one that day cost around 6k only... Phillips brand...
nikali
Terion, This Hitachi P50A01A 50" is 1,280x1,080 & pixel pitch: 0.86x0.58 (about 2x monitor pitch)
sitting 7' to 15" away should be good enough.
They got the full HD but price too much.
Blue ray? Its not catching up? too expensive (hard/ software)!

ic they bump up the resolution but that resolution is still same as a 19" lcd (not wide) monitor only...

anyway i think it depends on how far ur sofa is from the TV, if like normal homes 7-8' feet that i think 50" is a little too big...but if 15' then its ok... like home cinema already thumbsup.gif

blueray is catching up la nik, cheapest player in the market is only 1.3k... PLUS it can play games/surf internet/become home media center...ya im talking about the PS3 la..haha laugh.gif

Rez, sitting distance and especially ambient lighting are very important factors. HD not so important, at least for now and immediate future as far as Astro is concerned. Personally, I'd rate rez as the most important factor.

I think LG is the cheapest around for both LCD and plasma.

Nik, the resolution is not 16:9 n hence the pixel is rectangular instead of square.
if u connect to pc as monitor, pics will be distorted.
if possible try looking for those proper 16:9 resolution ie 1366x768.

what a coinsident, my tube TV just caput this morning... now eyeing at 32" LCD TV.. what brand is good?? so far thinking of Samsung RM2799/RM2499.. any suggestion?
dcspeed
Hitachi cost me RM4,399.00 fully imported, Made In Japan, comes with remote motorized swivel stand. (Bought in Jan 2007)

Sharp Aquos cost me RM6,499.00 Made In Malaysia, LCD Panel Made in Japan. (Bought in Jan 2008)

The price for LCD TV is getting cheaper and cheaper... Samsung, Philips 32" LCD can go below RM2k nowadays at any stores... The price I paying for my Hitachi 32" LCD can get 2 units of 32" LCD now. But quality wise, don't really go to compare it because I no longer interested on that size anymore.

However, mum still complaining the new 42" Aquos is small when the installer unwraped and mount in my living room. Perharps the distance from the AV rack to my sofa set is too far, about 22 ft... need to work hard and get a bigger like bro Nikali 50' Plasma TV next year...

My advise, when comes to market survey, always go to bigger store like Harvey Norman or Best Denki to compare on few brands and models of LCD/Plasma. Don't be shy, ask the sales reps to play ASTRO and DVD on the model you like, some of them are very tricky, they won't tell you they are actually playing normal DVD or BluRay on that TV, so always ask questions.... However, the price normally is more expensive at those stores. Note down the model number and go to any smaller dealer and ask for a good price. I bought Aquos because almost all the shops that I have went said Sharp Aquos LCD TV is the best...... But for Plasma TV, must get the Pioneer or Hitachi brand... others brands, take it only when your budget is limited.

Not just LCD, plasma too. LG 50" plasmas now cost about half the price I paid for my 42" Pana plasma a few years ago. I bought a 32" Samsung LCD a number of months ago from a dealer's stock clearance sale, it cost RM2.7k but prices are lower now without any sale and prices will continue to drop.

It's always the same; you either commit to buy or you keep on waiting, and waiting, and waiting because you know prices will get lower and lower... sigh...
zahang
what ever brand..or size ..my little advice.. keep your children (armed with remote or any object) away from yr lcd/plasma...

sad.gif whistling.gif 2095_wailing.gif
freddie
one advise...

when you go to harvey norman, you can actually NEGOTIATE with the sales person.

gf was just asking for discount(for fun) when my soon-to-be-in-laws bought a fridge, microwave, washing machine and other electrical appliances. but they treated her seriously and gave like 15% discount!!

no harm asking for discount. laugh.gif

lancer, also ask the lowest price 50" Hitachi Plasma for me.
Most likely I will make the purchase mid next month cash.
Then ask credit card how many % they charge.

terion
nik since u going for plasma,

do remember not to leave it on for long time if the screen is showing the same thing or else the plasma will get a burn in effect... i think there should be a screen saver function to prevent it too
zahang
yup terion.. absolutely rite.. me faced that with my LG b4.. since my kids watching disney channel... that mickey mouse head (disney channel logo) keep appear (ghost image) on other channel hehhee even during live football match also appear huhh..... lucky still got waranty.. if not the cost 2 change the card inside approx rm700...

eldiablo
if you watch lots of astro might not be good to use plasma - burn in of the stupid logo of the channel on the upper corner of the screen possible. The colour range of plasma is better though for movies.

Shop around as some stores have specials that others might not - Wellhomes, Senq, Best

edit : bro zahang beat me to the point 1 as I was typing...

The new plasms got anti-burn. New technology lo!
Reverend
I doubt burn-in is a problem at all in a logical sense, even for the older plasmas, because I doubt most folks would leave their plasma switched on to the same channel for an extended period of time. I believe the burn-in "complaints" are the result of extended stringent tests which is hardly realistic for regular folks...

must be a recent breakthrough as this has been an issue with plasmas for quite some time now. if possible check the warranty for coverage on burn-in during purchase (like bro zahang)

On some panels, it only takes 30-60 mins to get burn in. in a modern day family the average use for Astro/TV is more than this. Most screen saver only activates when there is no signal from the source.

Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware whistling.gif

Actually a bit of history - the term screen saver (and all those crazy screen saver themes) actually originated from the need to do this with earlier computer screens as they used to have exactly the same issue of burn in many moons ago when screens were still green and amber. cool.gif

just bought Toshiba Regza 32A3500E for RM1780 from HLK Rawang.. not sure whether the price is ok or otherwise.. however price offered at Rawang electric shop is cheaper than electric shop that I surveyed.

Toshiba Regza 32A3500E,HLK Rawang-RM1780 vs Onking Puchong-RM2499
Samsung 32R81B,HLK Rawang-RM2200 vs Onking Puchong-RM2699 vs JJ/Courts-RM2799
Sony 32S310A, HLK Rawang-RM2100 vs Onking Puchong-RM2499 vs Courts-RM2299

All price offered is cash only.. and as Nik's Hitachi 50" Plasma... not sure what model is but it's not full HD offer for Rm6950..

what's the deferent hd ready and full hd eh.... confused.gif
SC999
HD ready at 1368 X 768 resolution whereas Full HD on 1920 X 1080P. see the diff?
LancerInspired
Sean, I just bought one 42" plasma for company.
Not very good in this, but I heard now unless you play HD dvd, then only the full HD tv can show its full petential. For normal tv watching like astro, doesn't make a diff between the HD ready and full HD becoz astro signal is not HD anyway. Is this how it works?
