I am new to this hobby. But I can give you guys a piece of advice. It is an addictive hobby, same like golf.
For really a beginner. The
BEST platform for training is ESKY
LAMA V3/V4. It is a co-axial heli, meaning it has double main rotor blade, NO tail rotor. This heli is priced at around RM200. You can get at rcsmart (Amcorp PJ) at RM190. The same heli with price RM300+ is due to the pricey Transmitter...2.4Ghz one...this heli is a 4 channel one and it is suitable for indoor. Outdoor is limited...if windy don't play, but if no wind, no problem.
4 Channel means you have the control for the vital axis i.e. Pitching (nose up/down), yaw (nose slide left/right), roll (bank to the left/right). It is suffice for beginners. And it is quite easy to master. I can hover this heli after 10 training flights.Furthermore this heli is durable. Heavy landing and scratched blade can still fly one.
For beginners to intermediate, to get a real heli flying (with tail rotor) that's where the 6 channel comes into place. 6 channel offers 3-D flight, meaning inverted flight (flying upside down). But it is for the pro. I dont do that, and I deactivate the 'idle up'/3D switch in my transmitter (safety reason).
There's plenty of 6 channels e.g Bee King, Belt CP, Align T-rex and so forth. But for these platforms, you can change the channels to even 9 channels as long as you change the transmitter and receiver.
I opted for Belt CP over Bee King as I feel the former is heavier, thus stronger mainframe.Whereas Bee King is frame is slim, esp the tail boom. But both the choppers you can get the parts easily. That's the most important, parts support. Don't buy helis with hard to get parts like
WalkeraFor training purposes, use the training kit (ping pong) and attach to the skid. This is to prevent the heli to sustain heavy damage in the event of hard landing. My advise is to fly low level...abt 3 feet AGL (At Ground Level) and slowly practise the controls, turn left, right...slowly slide to left and right.
It is a KEPUASAN if you can hover the heli...nikmat maaa....One other thing is to train to fly in a 'tail in' manner, meaning the tail must face the player (you). If you go overboard then immediately turn the nose upfront with the tail facing you. With this you have better control.
For beginners...dont fly the heli 'nose in'...with the nose facing you. This will create orientation problem since many vital controls are opposite in this manner. With nose in, if you turn the joystick control to the left, the heli in turn will turn to the right and you will be disoriented and the heli will eventually crash.
For the spot where the hobyist play (that I know of):
Puchong - Puchong Prima (this Sunday I may check it out)
Putra Heights
Puncak Alam
There's one place at Damansara (I think Mutiara Damansara kot)
For you guys that want to have some price indication. Here an URL:

I bought mine at lelong.com.my for great deal (bid) but modified by buying the parts at rcsmart.
