EFFECTIVE July 1, the price of tyres will go up by between 5% and 18%, China Press reported.

In its front-page report yesterday, the daily highlighted that service charge at tyre shops would also be increased by 20%.

Quoting a spokesman for the Tyre Retreading Manufacturers’ Association of Malaysia, the daily reported that manufacturers were finding it hard to make ends meet.

“Initially the association wanted to increase the price of tyres by 25%. But fearing a backlash from consumers, we decided to raise it to between 5% and 18%,” he told the daily.

This is the second time this year that the price of tyres has been increased, the daily noted.

Dude...nowadays, what never go up apart from our salary? My favorite cuppa kopi also increased to RM 1.80 from RM 1.50. And our 'beloved' PM and his buddies keep on asking no one shud increase the price. They tot all the company is doing charity. Luckily I oredi changed my tyres and rim 2 weeks after I took my car, if not really 'am tam'!!
