As above mention, I suggesting to standardised our forum.

What I can see is that most of the forumer are writing and replying in malays or chinese translation which might be not a good thing for foreign as they don't know what you're telling. As a public forum, it should be understood by all parties and the best language is English.

Maybe member can use ather languages in mamak thread.

But NOT on the infomative thread, try to avoid it if possible. Don't make a habit. It's no different than creating OT conversation. Plus... not all people understand shortform created only he/she may know (or SMS language). I found out it is quite hard for me to know, what he or she is trying to tell until I need to read and re-read his/her reply.

Well just my opinion. Do or Don't, it is up to the moderator and comittee to decide laugh.gif

You're new... you'll get used to it :)

I like things the way it is now.... it's just our own unique Malaysian style. In fact, LGTC wouldn't be what it is now if it is (for lack of a better word) "sanitized".

I think it isn't the abbreviated/SMS style that is a big problem; it's the mixture of various expressions of different languages that may be a barrier eg. a Cantonese or Hokkien word expressed as "tulan" may not be understandable to non-Chinese... but then many of the Easterners' unique Malay language is not understandable to me too... but it's alright with me, because it's all part of the "fun factor" here, as well as respecting the different races in this country. Wish I can speak like the Easterners, tho' :)

Just my personal opinion :) Maybe in due time, LGTC can have some super-duper auto-translator that converts everything into proper English, hahaha :)

TQ medowance for a 'global' view on the matter..

Agree with Rev..

1. If the foreign guest need some info .. he/she can always ask .. fellow LGTC will be more than happy to assist.. i'm saying this based on experience..

2. Chinglish or Manglish is still acceptable to majority of us.. and it also add flavours to this forum... esp when TCSS ...

3. It is also a practice here ... to use English when there is important announcement etc...

eldiablo
really depends on thread.... also - some members way off OT...

if it is a TCSS thread ok to be OT and use whatever slang appropriate...

if it is general topic - e.g. what is your dream car - a bit OT ok - slang less relevant...

if it is about a particular topic - say - problem with exhaust.... or fog lamp.... or Alternator Booster... try not to go OT too much and use proper english.

This way most members can understand also. I'm all for Malaysian identity and culture but needs to be in the right place, right time AND in the right dose!

Eastern thread is like it is encrypted... biggrin.gif

good idea for the globalisation.. but dont be so stressed out because of other people reading it.. this club is our house, we dot it our way, let them learn our culture.. welcome them as our guest as well..
LancerInspired
well the forum is like escapade for many members and if we make it so formal with all the languages... argh...
I think generally we are OK although some local slang are added, and no point care too much about what others are able to read or not.

AGREE!!

at times we need to use proper english and at times we don't... this club is created by a malaysian for malaysians... this is our culture, being multi-racial, hence foreigners would respect that and vice versa... if they don't understand, they are always welcome to clarify with us...

biggrin.gif just my 2 cents
