AGM
We live in a society where:

1. People invite you over for a RM150 per head annual dinner but ask you to sponsor RM1,000 for lucky draw gifts.
2. Angpow's dollar amount to a wedding dinner must be over a certain threshold (such as RM50 in Ipoh or RM80 in KL) to "look good".
3. People talk like they are in pasaraya when the host is giving welcome speech upstage.
4. Slow drivers hogging the fast lane and thinking it's their obligation to keep everyone under speed limit.
5. Unconcious drivers hogging the entire street and never minding the long line of vehicles behind them.
6. Punk a$$ drivers who drive like nannies but becomes cucukers when you pass them.
7. Police arrive long after violent robbery has happened but way before peaceful demonstration has started.
8. Police can catch good people who demand for living improvement but cannot catch bad people who ruin other people's lives.
9. Officers in uniform come visit your business in their official vehicles for angpow during any new year but disappear from the world when you actually need them.
10. It takes six months to repair a telephone cable citing budget problem when you keep paying your monthly bill for services not rendered.

Can't blame them... they're unconscious... wonder how they can still steer their car...

LOL :)

LoL Good tabulation of stuffs. I guess it's just life. The choice is ours to choose whether to let others bring agony and hatred to our own lives. For me, I know I can't change the world, but I can do what it takes to control how I feel about things. My 2 cents. Good post AGM :)

ya... tell me about it.

RM80 is only barely enough to cover the table cost. if any liquor is served, for sure lose money already.

but then again, for RM80 you eat that kind of shitty meals served... not worth it.

in the end, restaurant or hotel win, we lose. sigh... down.gif

Except 8 & 9, the rest are tolerable. Let learn to be patient, including me myself.

Yup... had wanted to post a diatribe about the saying "Patience is a Virtue" in this thread but just got lazy.

If I reacted regarding AGM's 10 complaints, I have more to lose than I have to gain. That's the way it goes. We just go about things in our own quiet way.

Here's something to think about also, and is a continuation of AGM's list :

11. Some of my so-called "friends" avoided me after I said that I can understand, and accept, homosexuality... since I have good HUMAN BEINGS i.e. friends that happen to be gays/lesbians. That's the state of things, and it's sick.

12. A friend that I had considered a "very good friend... a brother, even" avoided me when I'd asked him to lend me money a long long time ago. That's Society for you. Are we really brothers? We are? Then lend me some money... oh, you can't?

Putting our heads in the sand doesn't mean the problems will go away when we pull our heads out. Then again, everyone is right that these are the ways of the society. Who are we to change or judge anything...? I simply feel very tired watching the same things happening over and over everyday.

Since when has cutting que among traffic become a tolerable act?
Since when has angpow become mandatory in a wedding dinner? Who's belanja who?
Since when has flashing at other cars on the highway become a gesture that you have the right of way?
Since when has double parking become an "okay" act especially at places that already have heavy traffic?
Since when have kids started talking to their parents as if they were the ones who gave birth to the parents?
Since when has our country's climate gone so cold that our teenage girls have to wear thick and long socks in different colors?

Since when have we become so unconscious with our own actions?
Since when have we become so inconsiderate and selfish?

Since when have I become so grumpy?

Since when??

AGM,

My dad was the first person in my hometown advocating for a free wedding dinner. We believe in treat means a real treat. Not when say treat but at the end ppl must pay money to have their portion i.e. the guest pay for their own food. To be honest this thing happens and its a tumour in the hipocrate chinese society. So what happen if i am a someone who can't afford a 30 tables dinner in a ballroom and would still want to marry? Yes, invite only the closest relatives and best friends, and perhaps all you have is only some 40-50 ppl. Then a dinner with 4-5 tables of guest, honoured guests will be invited and they don't come with angpow...because they are your best pals and they deserve a good dinner with no stress on ang pow. Same thing in reciprocity.

Too bad, my dad failed to wake his ppl up. So he quit his post in the society. He did this on my wedding dinner.

Somehow, my honoured guests still feel stress. Reason: We didn't want to accept ang pow/ gifts --> they thought they can't enjoy the dinner without "licence". Pity chinese.

Regards,
strike

angpow is just a way of participating in the celebration - helping each other celebrate and cover some of the costs involved. assuming you have a choice.... biggrin.gif

as for friends and money - I think it depends on the situation (e.g. if gambled away or for operation) and individual as some keep the 2 seperate. when the 2 mix sometimes it ruins the friendship anyway.
