Title: Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything
Author: Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner
ISBN: ISBN 0-06-073132-X.

Currently I'm reading this book, and from the first few chapters I must admit the book is a real page turner...you just can't let it go.

The book talks and narrates some of the economic theories with everyday's life in a 'politically correct' kind a statements.

The book has sold for more than 3 millions copies world wide since released in 2005!

Really encourage for the members to grab one!

I finished reading a book on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. There was one passage in the book which touched me. It was in the year 1930 - the Salt Laws were in force where the British Government had a monopoly on salt, controlling both its production and distribution. In other words, it is illegal for the Indians to make their own salt.

Mahatma Gandhi organised the Salt Satyagraha, a campaign of non-violent protest against the British salt tax. There was an incident where armed police blocked his followers from reaching a place where they have placed the utensils to make salt.

So what did Gandhi’s followers do? They lined up in batches and approached the police. The police stepped forward with their batons and started to rain blows on the head of the followers. Since the followers believe in non-violence, they did not block or protect themselves against the blows. Cracks of the batons against the skulls of the followers could be heard. When one batch of followers fell on the ground, the next batch of followers will line up and march forward to be beaten up and when they fell, the next batch of followers will take over and so it went……

In the end, hundreds of bleeding non-violent followers of Gandhi was sent to the hospital where some of them died from their injuries. This is the power of non-violent protest called satyagraha which marked the beginning of the end of British colonial rule over India.

how do you rate best sellers that went into the silver screen? do you think the directors really give justice to the book? for instance i never read dan brown's, but i saw the movie and looking forward for the next one...how do you guys forsee the movie gonna be? based on your benchmark on davinci code?

further, tom calncy is my all time favorite...i think Jack Ryan is true diverse character compared to Fleming's Bond...I love the character in sum of all fears portrayed by ben affleck...probably i was biase because the novel just kick a**...

what about other novel, LOTR, Harry Potter...and etc...

Sure. The title of the book is "The Life of Mahatma Gandhi". The author is Louis Fischer. This book is selling for around RM40.00 plus I think - 672 pages (paper back edition by Harper Collins).

The book is worth its weight in gold. Please see the link at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Mahatma-Gandh...r/dp/0006388876 for the book cover and reviews.

Just bought "Guns, germs and steel" by Jared Diamond
Its a short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years and the Winner of the Rhone-Poulenc Science Book Prize.
Guaranteed to open your mind on why history unfolded so differently on different continents.
Makes you realise geography and biogeography, not race, moulded the contrasting fates of Europeans, Asians, Native Americans, sub-Saharan Africans, and aboriginal Australians.
Originally published 10 years ago and still thought-provoking...
