actually all if not most games comes in 720p.. only PS3 exclusive games seems to come in 1080p native.

the reason xbox games all in 1080p is because xbox has a hardware upscaler that upscales all 720p games to 1080p so thats why it seems to look better on generic games (games that are release for all platforms ps3/xbox/wii/pc)

maybe off topic but anybody know how to separate XBOX graphics audio...means i want hdmi cable as picture but for audio want to use my mini hifi AUX...

u need to buy a separater, that allow u to use HDMI port to go to TV, then optical to Hi-Fi

The progressive-scan versions of the 1080-line resolution is known as 1080p. Current digital television broadcast systems and standards are not equipped for 1080p50/60 transmission. Also, the majority of consumer televisions offered for sale are currently not equipped to receive or decode a 1080p signal at any frequency. It is less bandwidth-intensive to broadcast a movie at 1080p24 than 1080i60, since 20% less data would be transferred. In addition, when the source material is 24 frames per second, as are most films, it would be easy to convert a 1080p24 broadcast to an NTSC 1080i60 format using a 3:2 pulldown process (see telecine). Moreover, displaying a p24 broadcast on an i50 system (such as PAL) requires the speed of video and audio be increased by over 4% (to 25 frames per second).

Therefore a hybrid is often used for movies and the like: the frames (25 or 30 per second) are segmented into two interlaced fields with equal time index (psf, progressive in or with segmented frames). The deinterlacer has to perform a simple weave only. This ensures compatibility with 1080i50/60 with only little less coding efficiency than 1080p25/30 and half the bandwidth requirement of 1080p50/60, but the SDTV problems of PAL speed-up and Telecine judder remain.

It is less efficient to transmit any signal with a frame rate significantly higher than that of its source, which is 24fps for movies, however frame differencing in the compression standards used for HDTV transmission greatly reduce the wasted bandwidth in these cases.

The graphics are going to be very similar on XB360 / PC / PS3. At launch time, the PC will have more powerful graphics cards available (at a premium price) than either console. The PS3 will be the biggest hassle to develop on, and the extra theoretical CPU power of the cells isn't going to translate into improved games.

Salary. Many games use over 100 people now, and fully burdened costs are near $100k each (higher at id, rather lower in other places). Burning $10M a year is easy. Burning four years on a game is not that hard. Add in other costs, and you can hit $50M. I don't think the game that hits $100M is in production yet, but it will certainly happen within a decade.

Id isn't going to spend $50M on a game soon, but others in the market will.

the density of pirated DVD is not as rich as ori one.

thus giving unnecessary stress for the lens

I think I have just encountered the dreaded "lens failure" problem on my PS3, altho' I'm not sure.

PS3 games aren't being recognized after loading. This happened after a NFS Prostreet game hanged while playing. So I ejected the game disc and tried to re-start. Can restart but hanged while during intro.

Tried other games, same thing... either game disc not being read (after loading the disc) or if the game does start, it will hang.

However, BluRay movies seem to work fine... :/

Confirmed Sony Malaysia will not entertain parallel import sets. Took it to the shop where I bought my unit and they said they know about the problem coz they just repaired one unit :blink: They will change the lens and it will cost me about RM4xx, d*mn!

There have been several cases of lens problems with PS3. While there is no solid explanation for these lens failures (one theory is the overheating of the lens), I'll just list down some of the best practices recommended by our community here.

- if possible, remove the BD from PS3 before you shut it off (advice from Bernard of GS)
- in any case of freeze/lockups, eject any disc in the drive first before attempting to restart the system. This will lower the risk of the BD drive problem - vorchiel
- a few have theorized the questionable quality of pirated DVD movies may overly-stressed the BD laser leading to failures, best avoid them
- as always, don't place the ps3 in a closed off cabinet with restricted airflow. make sure the placement of the ps3 don't block any of its vents.
- Try not to place your PS3 on the same level that you place your front speakers. The sounds generated from the speakers regardless low or high volume will cause some low or high vibration across the AV cabinet or table panel and this might have a negative damage impact on the BD mechanism lens and it parts (especially when the lens is in reading mode, the sensitivity is much greater to any shock or vibration) - raoul

Anyway, I think I know how the lens in my PS3 failed. My son was playing InitialD and wouldn't let me quit the game/shut down the PS3 because he wanted to continue the game whenever he wanted to. So the PS3 was switched on for about like 5-7 days non-stop, while the InitialD game was paused. I think the lens kaput because it was constantly reading the InitialD game disc for 5-7 days.
