After two months of using the iPhone, my friend suddenly realise that her phone bill was way much higher than it used to be. She signed up for the RM150 iValue Plan and expected that her bill would be around that figure. She went to Maxis to seek clarification.

The following was their explanation;
The package is RM150.00 of which RM75 is for the talk time and the other RM75 is for the data plan. Since her usual bill was RM150.00 for talk time and sms (before signing the contract), she has now to pay additional RM75.00 to enable her to continue her normal usage(talk time). And on top of that, she has to pay extra RM50.00 for sms because it was not included in the package. Her data plan was under used as she only uses her phone to check mails.

I find that this misleading. The promoters that were assigned to lure customers into signing contract did not at any point of time explain these facts. They would come up to you, and ask the quantum of your monthly usage. And without any hesitation recommend you a package base on the amount of usage you tell them. This is not fair at all because any person who signed up for the iValue would expect that their bill to remain as it usually is, and if not, slightly higher. And not to mention that the deposit was not deducted from the first bill as promised.

So, think again before you sign up.

'YOU DON'T ASK, I DON'T TELL" down.gif

What do you think???

in many tech forums this was discussed a lot with some people complaning about it. i guess your friend was unlucky or did not do the research about how the plan works. i remember when i asked a maxis cust svc how the plan worked they explained it to me. perhaps your friend did not ask? also, it's stated how much free minutes and how much free data per plan on the plan chart.

i'm not defending maxis, they are a business and they want to make money. we also need to do our part in finding out before we sign up for contracts right? at least i knew ahead of how the plan works. cheers

You might be tech savvy and would know what to ask the customer service asst. But for a lady who is not, they would not know what to ask. She relies solely on the info given to them by the promoters. These promoters are employed on part-time basis, and their product knowledge is on a need to know basis.I personally have asked them questions which they themselves couldn't answer. And as they are commission oriented, they will try to secure as many clients as possible thus hiding information which they think might drive the potential clients away. There are many grey areas which they do not cover. e.g. what if the phone is lost or stolen, are you allowed to get another? Why isn't there a mechanism to check your data usage, like how you are to check your unbilled usage by calling *100# etc

I kena also. Thought RM 150 included all the thing. :(

ya... maxis is kinda tricky in promoting this iPhone 3G...

for my case, before I signed up for the iPhone 3G iValue Plan 2 - RM250 per month, my monthly bill is around RM250-280 max...

after I signed up, on the same month I have signed up for the iValue Plan 2, my bill is RM400+... 2nd month even worst - RM1110.16 because of the international roaming, I went to HK and Seoul on the same month... lucky my company subsidized but still how, I feel that this is not worth it just because of one lousy iPhone 3G mobile phone...

anyway how, I have to stick with this lousy iValue Plan for 1 year and I think I will switch to other operator since I feel that maxis is not providing a better service with a higher charges they had incurs to their value consumers...

u read the T&C and u signed it and u have to pay for it.

bro...there have been reported cases of data usage skyrocketing beyond the allocated limit and it does not tally with the amount reported in iPhone. Quite an interesting read in LY forum...

READ THIS !!!!

so to all Maxis iPhone users...pls be very aware
SamueltonG
same as me here................just buy another 1 prepaid sim card lo...............save money ma...
eldiablo
rates are rates. not T&C. just becareful before signing up and ask any questions until you feel comfortable.

since got spare data bandwidth:
how about using email instead? or use IM tools?
can also use facebook client to message
or twitter...

as for usage - careful some of the apps use data services (e.g. posting high scores, gps, etc.)
SC999
my pc of advice after using near 2 years on iphone.

when u connected to Wifi, it shall not connect via your GPRS/EDGE connection.

but whne Wifi not avail, then it will seamlessly using your GPRS/EDGE ecoonection which required money.

so see carefully if there is a round thing next to your signal bar. if there is, then u r on GPRS/EDGE.

Economist
maxis is a f***ing sh*t hole of a company.......PERIOD........

I'm using around 800-900mb monthly. Quite alot though. ahaha

iPhone is meant for heavy Data users. If you want a typical handphone, you shouldn't be buying an iPhone (unless you wanna be a "lansi" like Daniel haha....). The commercial says it all, its for you to listen to music, watch movie, e-mail, surf, take photos and etc. on top of it, its also a handphone.

Those whom want to purchase such an item should think before you buy, when it costs more than RM1K, you should be asking around, unless you don't bother. It will be rediculous to package the iPhone as normal handphone users' package. The packages, airtime charges and all are available in the website, anyone can access and compare.

When you purchase something, you should describe your preference, just like when you're not well and you see a doctor. You need to describe what's your problem as the doctos is unable to know. Go look through the packages available, if the promoter were to discribe each package, the user will definitely be confused.
donyong
it is stated very clearly on the borang how 150/250 is split into calls and data plans...
ActionKamen
that is why people tend to buy the unlocked iPhone and use it on their prepaid or whatever.

those rates charged on consumer is to transfer the burden /Maxis hav to pay to Apple. (Royalty fees)

My friend in Nokia Gardens told me that Maxis charges are more expensive than Celcom or Digi. A customer logged his calls and compared it with his bill. He then went to Maxis but the customer service asst. could not explain. He terminated his line and changed to Celcom. And this fact is supported by many people I know.
I don't know whether Celcom is really cheaper but I find that my bill is high too. My cut off date is the 10th of every month. On the 5th or 6th, I'll check my bill using *100#. It will be in the region of RM70 or RM80. (My min. commitment is RM110). But when I check again on the 8th or 9th, it has already exceeded my commitment. I don't understand cause it doesn't jive with my usage.
The other thing is that my cut off date is 12am /10th of every month. When I check my bill at 6am the next day, it has already recorded RM3.75. What are these charges for?
I also subscribe to the unlimited data and broadband. So, my bill will be in the region of RM400 a month ermm.gif

Can provide me some answers Bro? Thank you in advance. confused.gif

finally i have another kaki monthly mobile phone bill almost the same with me... my maxis bill almost every month also around RM400-500... I am wondering is that really I talk that much or stupid maxis is over charge me... my itemised bill comes with more than 20 pages of phone calls record, I also lazy to check on it...

should switch to other operator and see since now we can maintain the old number...

check your itemised bill la, if you guys are too lazy to check your bills no one can help you.

using iphone? also check your apps and settings - some might be using some services and some might be using services without your knowledge or edge/gprs when out of 3g coverage.

Everything written here is very much true. I realized all of this on the second day after i signed the contract. And there was nothing i could do about it. Maxis service assistants are very very lousy and they dont even care. The management is simply not making them care about consumers. I've experienced it myself. To make it worse, it happened in theri hq consumer care centre - at menara maxis. I signed up for iphone plan without being given right info on how it works. When i asked what is the difference between value plan and iValue plan they didnt properly explain, and i think this is when they should have were supposed to bring all this things up. As a corporate user i could have taken value plan with iphone, plus unlimitted data plan at that time, and it would have served me just right. Since i use my line mainly for international calls and roaming and none of these are covered by the plan, the monthly bill is always my usage PLUS my commitment for iValue 4. I am paying the commitment basically just to get the data plan. Expensive one i would say. Not even sms is covered by it.

Just have to live with it. If there was competitor on iPhone plan, would have left them right now.

That's the point I wanted to stress. They did not explain it accurately thus misleading the consumer.
A couple of months back, I went to maxis to change my daughter's prepaid line to post paid. But I stressed to them that being a teenager, she is reckless with the usage. So I changed the limit to RM100, and I wanted them to block the outgoing calls and sms upon reaching the limit. To my surprise, the bill went up to RM375.00 for the first month itself. I went to the Gardens Maxis and complained. The explaination given by CS was unacceptable. She said that I did not emphasize on barring the line at the limit. How much emphasis do they need??? Isn't changing the credit limt a clear emphasis. verymad.gif
Yesterday I went to pay my bills also at Gardens. There was this American lady cursing and swearing at the CS. She just blew her top. She brought her bills and enquired about the details on charges that even the CS couldn't explain. wacko.gif

there goes maxis day light robbery clause...i personally don't like the maxis plan...it was just me...so for now...i phone 3GS is a no-no for me...i would rather subscribe more stable connection and speed for that amount of money with unlimited data access...just my 2 cent...

Bro, if you're a heavy data user, it's good to upgrade now to RM155 package. It's RM55 extra but you have 1Gb of data usage and +/- 700 minuts of talk time. I've asked them about this. You can upgrade but not downgrade.

Aku dah jadi mcm CS maxis la pulak.
