During one of the TT, Desmond mention that the Jetta 2.0 is a very powerful car... this got me thinking.. how powerful can it be? 2.0 FSI NA engine.. should be around the same as the Lancer's 2.0...

Note that im comparing both cars performance only, not how many massaging seats or how many cup holders its got

of cause the jetta is much more expensive than the Lancer... about 60k+ more

From the spec as u can see its mighty close... even closer than civic vs lancer...

powe wise the 4b11 has 5hp more, but the FSI has 1 NM or torque more and at a lover RPM
CVT vs auto with tiptronic.. hmm..
the Jetta weights about 43kg less on unladen, but outweights the lancer in gross weight?
the 0-100 time is also pretty much a tie between the 2
Fc is about the same too
one thing though although the lancer's wheelbase is much longer, the turning radius of the Jetta is just too much.. 10.9m???

so next time u see a Jetta "cucuking u", be advise that u are equally matched in the car dept... the rest is depends on ur skill

i had also been looking at VW models but didnt really do a thorough comparison due to its price difference. no doubt Jetta is a good car but 4 similar performance, the difference to pay is too much 4 me but mayb not 4 others. watch out 4 the new polo 2b paired wt 1.4 TSi award winning beautiful engine. wonder how much it will cost?

Wouldn't mind a Jetta or Golf actually... if budegt can stretch that far

Actually b4 deciding to get d GT, I tried persuading my fren to sell off his Golf GTi to me for RM120K but he loves the car so much..so no go man. The upcoming Golf 1.4Fsi shud be one hell of a car as well.

The Jetta looks more executive and good boy look. Nothing interesting and attractive on the road. The GT is a head-turner. Comparing the specs, i think the GT is good enough.
In addition to this, be ready to take the full blow of no-second-hand-value of the Jetta. The extra RM60k can do a lot of mods...
I think the Jetta is priced almost the same in foreign countries. In Malaysia, the damn tax hiked the price up. Other than that, i think both cars are commendable anyway.

jetta is a safe car for family, not only tough chassis but also equiped with 8 airbag. it's tame in term of look.

cannot chase la, baru 300km++ , just let him go la..

i went for a test drive on sunday morning at vw the curve.

test drove a beetle 2.0 and the passat.

the beetle is a sissy car. bit under power for a 2.0 (115hp), perhaps 1.6 (105hp) even worse but not by much.

however the passat was a real pleasure to drive. it gave me the feel same as a 747 speed launch during take off. highly recommend if you have the $$$.

wanted to test drive the GTI too but the sa said test drive car was not there. :(

and that RS32 is scary too!!

If can afford 145K, surely can afford 157K for 2.0. And I guess got extra features over 1.6 as well...Not bad pricing.

As for us GTians, our ride is one heck of a drive already. Maybe not as comfy and quite as the conti ( Nikali might beg to differ... ) but still better than any of same class and price point.

Maybe its time to change our top banner in celebration of being crowned....Car of The Year 2007
