the model is DB200...NT4200 is 4200 taiwan dollars

i think DB200 slightly better coz it caters for RMVB n a few other formats that WD doesnt....not sure if this is sold here yet...dcspeed brought it back fr taiwan recently......

WDTV vs DB200... the question is can DB200 firmware be updated online? I know for certain WDTV can be updated online...
dcspeed
yoyoyo...

bought the DB200 from ergotech at NT$4200 (around RM420-430).

was in taipei during raya and my taiwan dealer brought me to a big IT mall (like low yat), saw everywhere selling HD Media Box... but saw this ergotech DB200 is the most expensive model available, as usual... I ask around and compare the specs, get to know that Ergotech is a very famous taiwan manufacturer... purely made in taiwan.

the specs for this FULL HD media box is overshoot others brands as well... the most important things is it can play almost 100% formats available on the market including the Bluray quality mt2s, mkv, ts,vc-1, vob at full HD1080P...

for RMVB, it will upscale to 720p and i think is fair enough for a small file size rmvb movie...

in terms of firmware upgrade, i just downloaded a 38MB firmware from their website support page and successfully upgrade the firmware which solve several known bugs and file format incompatibility on the previous release...

it is very portable and small in size, common output like HMDI 1.3b, component out, composite out, Digital Optical Out, coaxial output... all in...

play perfectly fine on my aquos...

highly recommend to bros and sis here...

Ryan PlayOn HD (using the same chip) and now is available in lowyat. rm630. many users in LYN as well.

yup...this BlueAngel H16 specs looks immpressive...definately better than WDTV and price is good when compared to A.C.Ryan. But seller in based in Melaka and limited forum support...hmmm donno whether worth the risk.

Another good one based on 1073DD as well is Amoi V6 and the casing is also stylish....hope its available in Low Yat.

Econs, why be limited to rmvb and as Ryans rightly ponted out RMVB suxxxxxs.

if a player is capable of upscaling to 720p or 1080p, as long as it can decode the file, the it can upscale. what i mean is 1073DD based player can decode rmvb up to 720p. some basic rmvb player can decode up to 576p only.

I've been looking at some of these players... interesting...

now the WDTV price looks to have come down at about 290RM if I remember correctly.

Also lots of new players such as ASUS about 490RM and some competition that is <200RM from China.

AC Ryan apparently includes cables for those that currently dont have some. And there's a new "mini" model too.
seems to have everything including composite video for those in midst of transition to HDMI...

I am luving my Seagate FreeAgent+ becos the hard disk can be easily detached/slotted AND the biggie feature is Mac compatibility. As far as i know its the only one that can read Mac formatted hard disk.

whitey, I saw from the specs that freeagent+ got composite out too.

ASUS Enhances Living Room Entertainment
with Wi-Fi-enabled HD Media Player
ASUS O!Play Air HDP-R3 Features Robust Wireless Media Streaming For a Lively Entertainment Experience

ASUS today unveiled the O!Play Air HDP-R3 HD media player that enables users to access all their digital content from various sources wirelessly—for the most convenient multimedia entertainment experience. The O!Play Air HDP-R3 streams a wide variety of audio, photo, and high-definition video formats from PCs, NAS, card readers and other USB or eSATA-connected devices. Formats supported include MPEG1/2/4, H.264, VC-1, and the popular RMVB. Additionally, the HD media player delivers up to 1080p Full HD image rendering.

More Content Possibilities with Comprehensive Access Options
The O!Play Air HDP-R3 inherits premium High Definition playback features and extremely wide file format support from its predecessor—the highly popular O!Play HDP-R1 media player. However, the new O!Play Air HDP-R3 further raises the bar on performance by including new networking features and convenient memory slots for rapid and convenient digital data access. Equipped with the latest Wi-Fi support, the HD media player streams content wirelessly from PCs and NAS. Also, built-in card reader slots allow users to access digital files and photos effortlessly from CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD/MMC) cards, or Memory Sticks (MS/MS Duo)—enabling users to view digital photos instantly.

Easy Gateway to Content via Wireless Capabilities
The O!Play Air HDP-R3 comes with new wireless capabilities that allow it to retrieve content effortlessly. By supporting the 802.11n wireless networking standard, the HD media player is capable of stable and rapid wireless data transfers at maximum throughputs of 600Mbps. Additionally, the HD media player can wirelessly stream content from a PC, with its O!Link application providing easy file browsing and sharing capabilities. For more convenience in the future, developments are now underway to integrate the HD media player with Internet services.

User-friendly O!Photo Picture Manager for Complete Family Enjoyment
Equipped with built-in card readers, the O!Play Air HDP-R3 is the perfect companion for families to share their precious memories. Users simply insert their memory cards into the O!Play Air HDP-R3 to automatically display their photos. At the same time, they will be prompted on whether they want to save their photos into another storage device. Intuitive photo management features also let users sort their pictures by date and easily search for images—making the player an important chronicler of treasured moments. Such user-friendly features make the O!Play Air HDP-R3 easy to operate—even for less tech-savvy family members.

Digital Access to a Comprehensive Library of Tunes with Music Shuffle
The O!Play Air HDP-R3 is the first HD media player with a dedicated music shuffle button. Located on its remote control, this button provides access to a large number of songs. Users simply need to press this button and the O!Play Air HDP-R3 will retrieve all the stored digital music files and play back the songs in random order. In doing so, the O!Play Air HDP-R3 provides true, all-round audio and AV home entertainment.

Fast Media Streaming with the Latest eSATA and LAN Connectivity
While high-definition content delivers stunning images, it also requires huge bandwidth to render the image quality to perfection. Equipped with the latest eSATA interface, the O!Play Air HDP-R3 unleashes the power of ultra-quick data transfer, giving users up to six times faster throughput compared to a USB 2.0 connection. This helps eliminate any potential delays in rendering a high-definition image. Also, the O!Play Air HDP-R3 supports LAN connections for rapid streaming and on-the-fly decoding of media files from various connected devices. Users can instantly enjoy rich multimedia entertainment in their living room—without having to manually transfer and store files on the player.

Dunno about others but Hornettech does not support Mac drives. I am guessing most of them do not support

does the WDTV now accept RMBV? I heard that it doesnt out of the box....

RMVB ??? you watching Korean drama now izzit biggrin.gif

was lookin around today - saw one on sale for RM99. had a bunch of features and even included rmvb format playback. some original v2 or similar. of course component output and no optical or coaxial outputs... but tempting...

whitesurfer - wanted rmvb cos wifey likes to watch the serials... and yes some korean dramas can be quite interestin... biggrin.gif

is it just a matter of the OS used to format the drive? as mac and pc's use FAT16/32.
will using a PC to format the drive solve this?

any big advantage of using firewire instead of USB2.0 or is that fast enough so there's no choppy viewing?
Economist
bought my cheapo rmvb player for rm70 or 75....only component and composite out...can upscale to 1080i but can only decode 576p rmvb files...as i use for tvb shows only...so i haf no complains...except that the fwd functions fwds the show too fast!

I'm looking forward for AC Ryan..Is this the best?

Was told by my friend who used to own WDTV and Seagate..Both according to him sometime has flickering when playing movie, but he says when he use AC Ryan (not the slim one) no flicker at all..

Nowdays, after introduction of AC Ryan Slim, my told me now its below RM 500. Not sure if PC Fair can get better deal..

Best is subjective la bro....to me my Seagate combined with the dockable Freeagent GO 500GB hard disk is perfect combo. Have not seen any flicker or unplayable files yet. Why not try Mede8ter? Its 99% same as the AC Ryan as they're from the same OEM. I'm using the Mede8er MED500X now as I find the interface faster and more user friendly than AC Ryan. With a built in harddisk (up to 2 TB, not included) its so easy to bring this unit anywhere for file sharing. And there is buttons in front of the mede8ter so if you forgot to bring your controller its not a problem. (Always happens)
eldiablo
overdrive how much is the medi8ter?

got myself an acryan POHD mini.

+ve
like the compact size, looks, build and bundled hdmi cable.
easy to update firmware. plays most files, podcast files
optical out, component out

-ve
small compatibility issues with some OLDER wmv formats and some resolutions of FLV not playable)
placing of buttons on remote take a little getting used to... strange grouping of buttons
usb slots are at rear not suitable for "widebody" thumbdrives (solved it with an extender cable from old usb drive)

went shopping for some additional cables like optical to connect this to my HT system.
overdrive
I got it for around RM500 in C-zone PJ, probably you can haggle and get cheaper specially if you were to buy an additional Harddisk to be installed inside as well. So far so good, it is able to read anything I threw at it and outputs Dolby Digital 5.1 (or whatever, depends on source) nicely to my amp
eldiablo
the acryan mini is avail for about 430-470 now depending on bundle....
if you dont need internal storage then this is ok.

anyone use any different ones? now got more new models on market.....

on the other hand if you like to lug the whole thing to different places, internal might be cheaper (storage per mb). Now 1TB 3.5" is about same price as 500mb for 2.5"

I found hdmi cable for ps3. Price rm35. Made in china. Can try eh? Need advice..
khusyairi
Beli & try je la. I dont think it much different for HDMI cable.
Unless you see something obvious, such as dropouts or a flashing screen, the digital information transmitted by both cables (expensive or cheap) is exactly the same. no cable can make the picture any better or any worse.
Just make sure ur cable length is optimum or shorter as possible bcoz picture/sound quality can degrade if cable too long.

PS: Usually when buy new LED/LCD TV, U can get ori HDMI cable for free especially for all Sony TV. PS3 remote can control TV too or vise versa. Mean that to switch on the TV & PS3, u can just pust "PS" button on PS3 controller. simple..

nick, i bought from the guy kapak posted. bought a lot of stuff from him, including etrayz, good seller.
btw, if you do not need 2 bay 3.5 hdd, the xtreamer sidewinder (same new chip version as pro, support HD audio bit streaming) with 1 2.5 hdd slot only cost rm430 from him, dun buy the old version.

like kapak mentioned, download the Xlive and install in it, ada online udang, unlimited supply daily, kakakaka

gotta install the xlive separately instead of embedded into the firmware due to the legal issue with youtube.
