Hello all,
This section is created in response to a perceived ‘demand’ from another thread. It is dedicated to those who love the tough look of uniformed guys (but they themselves are either too short, too tall, too skinny, too ‘rounded’ or perhaps too smart during their prime time when the military calls for recruitment and now are invariably soft-bellied and/or riddled with short sightedness or myopic not to mention scores of other ‘defects’) with their expensive, sophisticated and hard hitting big-boy-toys hardware.
To these ‘arm chair generals’, feel free to discuss here anything under the sun – from land based equipment, airborne systems, sea crafts, complex tactics and strategies down to deceptively simple but very deadly IED and suicide bombers - as long as they are military related or one that goes kaboom!.
To those who are not so inclined, you are welcome to observe. But keep a safe distance lest you may be hit by some ‘stray’ bullets or shrapnel. If that won’t get you, the jargon may be alien enough to drive you to blow yourself up with a C4.
To start the ball rolling, here is one abbreviation or military lingo that most of us car freaks can associate with but has nothing to do at all about cars or tow service:
AAM – Air to Air Missile (not Automotive Assoc. of Malaysia). Definition: Missile launch from airborne platform to destroy another airborne target.
Now calling Admiral Nimitz and Digitalase (hey your nick “Digital Ace” sounds fierce enough to pilot an F-22 Raptor) to man the battle stations.

wah wah wah... military talk wor... I am a avid reader of military books since primary school days. Read all sorts of military books esp on aircraft and jet fighters. Also like books on elite forces story for eg Green Beret, GSG 9 and Seals etc...
My ambition when I was in Std 6 is to become a Special Unit Police officer. Those like you see in HK movie ... SDU. h

GOSH...i just knew about this post! Good good good....boys interests!! Hahhaa...
Balee,
I don't like the Raptor, looks sissy. I prefer the F-18 Hornet, looks so sexy!!!!!
From WWII, my all time favourite, the Supermarine Spitfire....looks so damn sexy and sleek!!
I have a model of Val Daiichi dive bomber (the ones that bombed Pearl Harbour)
I used to collect weekly magazines of these war documentaries.
Alxand,
Yes, Sukhoi or the Fulcrum looks so futuristic compared to the Americans'. Only Sukhoi, the other MIGS looks so huge with small cockpits!
Zahang,
Yes that is it...my favourite attack helicopter!!!! Cobra is nothing compared to this!! Agree with you that it is as ganas as the Lancer!
InfinityGT,
Tomcat was everyone's fav! I think Macross got influenced by the design as well. Sad to say that its service in the USN was terminated/ceased last two Septembers. Sigh...
OK..For the lancer...Let's dream of having the Lancer front lamp to open to expose its SAM on the left, and SSM on the right. Then there would be a vulcan cannon projecting from one of the foglight.
Next,
The whole windscreen automatically changes to night vision at night.
Like the Apache, whenever our head turn, the foglight and lamp will also turn...
Side winder missiles from below the carriage.
Like the Humvee, the Lancers tyres will self inflate and self adjustable on different terrains.
The only thing we don't need is the injector seat...hahahaha....

yeah F-14 replaced, they plan to get f-22 as replacement as it's so called multi task... anyway i still prefer sukhoi n migs.. but tech they're more advance but till date it's not widely used as alot was pressure to use western :) n by comparison, when 1 sukhoi or mig was launched it need couple more design from west to be on par with them, n i would say they lack money compared to western... :)

When I was in secondary school, there was this military aircraft magazine simply called Airplane. In every issue there was a spread or centerfold featuring one type of aircraft with information detailing the parts, equipments and armaments. The best part was the magazine only cost RM5 back then. Now similar publication will easily ‘rob’ you RM25 onwards. Spending a quarter of a hundred? Uh huh… and the gomen said Malaysians don’t read enough!
Recently, there was this magazine called Air Combat Collections. Each issue came with a model of military aircraft. The model is at scale of 1:100, made of die cast with very good detailing and correct paint scheme. There were supposedly 32 issues but I only managed to get 23 of them along with that ‘to die for’ model airplane. The one I missed most was F-16 Falcon because I’ve seen it but someone grabbed it first. The following is the models I got to lay my hands on:
1. F14 Tomcat
2. F117 Goblin
3. F15 Eagle
4. F100 Saber
5. Mirage III
6. Mil 35 (not sure the designation but this is Russian attack chopper)
7. Longbow Apache
8. F105 Starfighter
9. Panavia Tornado
10. Harrier (jump jet)
11. F4 Phantom
12. F??? Intruder (naval attack/fighter before F14 and is used extensively in Vietnam)
13. Jaguar (don’t confuse this with the car – it’s a product of British, German and French co-orperation)
14. Me 262?? (first jet fighter deployed by Nazi Germany during WWII)
15. MiG 29 Fulcrum
16. Meteor (first British jet fighter)
17. Supermarine Spitfire
18. Me109 (can’t remember the name but it’s premier Nazi Germany fighter in WWII)
19. Grumman Hellcat (of Pacific ‘turkey shoot’ fame)
20. Stuka (Nazi Germany terrifying dive bomber)
21. Mitusbishi Zero
The remaining two escape me. Will update later when I recall.
Apart from the F16, I don't know what are other models that I missed. If anyone here also collect such models and somehow just got tired of them, let me know. I’m still eager to get my collection complete.
anyone here plays 1st person shooter games ? like cod 4 or cs ?

the ability to run silent and deep is quite stealthy - they are quite difficult to detect and some subs are designed as "sub hunters" to seek and destroy other subs - some more can circle the earth a few times without coming to surface... diesel would be more for protection of local waters rather than international launch platform for missiles...

What scale do you model? 1:72?1:32?
1. F14 Tomcat

3. F15 Eagle (I have a small one, but threw it away. My first model aircraft)
4. F100 Saber
5. Mirage III ( I don't have this, but i have the Israeli version)
6. Mil 35 (not sure the designation but this is Russian attack chopper)
7. Longbow Apache (My favourite copper)
8. F105 Starfighter (Don't tell me you spray silver for the whole aircraft?)
9. Panavia Tornado (Which colour; Desert Storm version or European version?)
10. Harrier (jump jet) (I got this model when i was six)
11. F4 Phantom (one of the most beautiful carrier aircraft, my first diecast model)
12. F??? Intruder (naval attack/fighter before F14 and is used extensively in Vietnam) This is the A6 Intruder.
13. Jaguar (don’t confuse this with the car – it’s a product of British, German and French co-orperation)
14. Me 262?? (first jet fighter deployed by Nazi Germany during WWII) Yes, it's Messerchmit 262
15. MiG 29 Fulcrum
16. Meteor (first British jet fighter)
17. Supermarine Spitfire (Which version?I prefer Mark II, the Battle of Britain version)18. Me109 (can’t remember the name but it’s premier Nazi Germany fighter in WWII) Meserchmitt BF 109, Archrival of Supermarine Spitfire.
19. Grumman Hellcat (of Pacific ‘turkey shoot’ fame)...(i thought the name Turkey shoot is given to Corsair?)
20. Stuka (Nazi Germany terrifying dive bomber) I don't have this, but i have the Val Daiichi bomber. Yet to finished though
21. Mitusbishi Zero I have this. I made it as if it got sprayed with bullets, and a crash landing diorama. Threw it away. Too much dust. Didn't have a acrylic clear box.

Haha... digitalase you are one helluva military junkie! You need a therapy mate!
Those models I mentioned are all same scale 1:100. And no, I'm not 'crazy' enough to buy those Tamiya kit.

I just couldn't find enough time to assemble and paint them. The ones I got are complement from that Air Combat Collection (ACC) magazine which sadly, is no longer available.
Okay some comments/correction on my earlier post and your notes:
1. It's Mi24 helicopter gunship (not Mil 35). This is large attack cum transport chopper.
2. Mirage III - yes the one from ACC also wears Israeli colors. Obviously, Israel used it extensively during the frequent wars it had with its Arab neighbors in the 60s and 70s.
3. F105 Starfighter - YES it come in metal silver as is the norm for all jet fighters in that era.
4. Tornado - this one sports the boring brown desert camouflage
5. A6 Intruder - I got this one wrong. It is actually F8 Corsair carrier borne figther/attack jet
6. Supermarine Spitfire - What?! Got MkI/MkII? That's why I said you're one serious military junkie. I just can't tell the difference lah! Actually my interest is more on the newer jets than the old turbo props.
7. Grumman Hellcat - Got this one wrong too. You are correct. It's actually F4U Corsair - the dark blue 'bent wing' fighter that terrorised the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force in the Pacific Theatre.
The other two models I forgot yesterday are:
1. P51 Mustang - contributed signifcantly to the Allied in WWII by making it possible to have bombers formation escorted (hence better survival from the marauding Me109) right into Berlin.
2. Eurofighter - The first operational 4th generation fighter currently in service by certain European air forces.

This fighter really took the world by storm when it was used at the beginning of WWII. It was simply unbeatable against the older thus more obsolete fighters stationed by colonial Western powers in Asian region (they underestimated Japanese capability hence only placed their 2nd and 3rd class machineries) that it developed aura of invicibility at first.

Eh, no leh. I think Junkers Ju 88 was the medium bomber. Stuka is Junkers Ju 87. Size in between Heinkell 111 and Stuka. Stuka caused caused terror all over Europe. Beneath the wheels a siren was installed, so that it created that terryfing noise when it dives.

Just to share how comedic (or sickening depending on your inclination) some event can be. I watched History Channel couple of days ago. It was about an event that happened just after the truce was achieved in Korean War. Didn’t get the full details as I watched it mid way but it was about a tree that is located on no man’s land. UN workers accompanied by small number of US soldiers that were tasked with trimming the tree had been assaulted by North Korean soldiers who were hell bent to prevent the tree from being cut.
Not wanting to be the one losing face from the small ‘defeat’ and certainly to teach North Korea a lesson, US tried again the following day. This time on top of small number of lumber jacks entrusted to cut down the tree, they put their whole military might in the region on attack position. Tanks rolled into place together with thousands of infantries, airborne paratroopers plus attack helicopters and jet fighters were up in the air and even the B52 were deployed, ready to pounce.
Sure enough when the workers started working on the tree, North Korean soldiers appeared but they were in for a shock of their life seeing thousands of fully equipped US troops at the area. They, according to the narrator turned tail and disappeared in the nearby hills.
Needless to say the tree was successfully removed.

Come 1at June 2008 (Sunday). There will be RMAF 50th Anniversary OPEN DAY at RMAF Base Subang. Heard that its gonna be big. There'll be static and aerial displays. The showcase will be the much anticipated
Sukhoi SU-30MKM from RMAF 11Sqn. Also the Hornets and the Migs will be flying displays.
I heard that there will be flying past by a formation of Pilatus PC-7s forming the number 50 to mark the anniversary.
Of course souvenirs...will be sold there..shirts and stuff. The RMAF souvenirs (sqn patches etc) are hard to get. If you guys stumble upon a Grey Lancer GT with windshield stickers (RMAF,RMAF Base Ktn and Hornets 11Sqn stickers) around, chances are it's my car...hehehe

Thanks dude for the info on Nakajima became Subaru, never knew that. For all I know yes Mitsubishi makes planes..WW2 was Mitsubishi A-6M. After the war, following the truce, Japan cannot produce plane. Mitsu still there as MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries).
Mitsu makes jets for JASDF (Japan Self Defence Forces). The jets are F1 (cross between SEPECAT JAGUAR and Phantom) and F2...Japan's indegenous design...it resembles US F-16.
Apart from that Mitsu also licence built F-4EJ Phantom and F-15EJ Eagle, both for JASDF.

yeah F-14 replaced, they plan to get f-22 as replacement as it's so called multi task... anyway i still prefer sukhoi n migs.. but tech they're more advance but till date it's not widely used as alot was pressure to use western :) n by comparison, when 1 sukhoi or mig was launched it need couple more design from west to be on par with them, n i would say they lack money compared to western... :)
F-14 Tomcat is USN (US Navy). They were being replaced by F/A-18F Super Hornet (Super Horny...hehehe). Super Hornets will eventually be replaced (beyond 2015 I guess) by F-35C JSF (Joint Strike Fighter).
F15 Eagle is for USAF (US Air Force). It will be replaced by F-22 Raptor gradually beyond 2010.
F-16 Falcon also USAF will be replaced by F-35A JSF
AV-8B Harrier under US Marines will also be replaced by F-35B JSF.
The name JSF means Joint Strike Fighter, meaning USAF, USN and US Marines will have a single type of strike fighter in future. Of the three, only F-35B has the capablity of STOVL (Short Take Off/Vertical Landing)...similar with Harrier capabilities.
To sum up F-35 JSF is as follows:
F-35A - for normal operation from airbases (a.k.a conventional)...like today's F-16...USAF will take it
F-35B- Has the capabilty to take of and land vertical or conventional. That's why it will replace Harrier in US Marines
F-35C- Carrier capable. Meaning it can be operated from Aircraft Carriers, hence it has the arresting hook. Therefore it is destined for F-18E/F Super Hornet replacement
Our neighbor Singapore is involved with this program. Therefore S'pore will get the F-35 (most likely F-35A). For S'pore it will replace Skyhawks and F-5Es. Therefore S'pore's ORBAT (Order Of Battle) will consists of F-15SG Eagle, F-16 C Block 50 Falcon and F-35......formdable eh...

Singapore has always been very up todate with their armaments. Malaysia will just buy the planes and coppers to crash them. Hehehehe....
I don't really like the modern fighters, too sophisticated, and with all the computerized thingy the pilot doesn't seem to fly them plane, he is helped by all the computers.
The last time i was in Subang witnessing all this was when the USAF Thunderbirds were here. That was, about 20 years ago?

Any of you guys collect military scaled models?
I do collect the 'ready made' scale models. esp the die cast ones. have fighter jets. Last week I bought WW2 aces, the P-51D Mustang and Messershmidt BF109. Just to let you guys know that there is a decent shop in Section 14 that sell military scaled models, the raw and finished ones. The shop is called "Hobby Shop' if I'm not mistaken.
It is located smack in the middle of Section 14 PJ, second floor. The staircase leading to the shop is beside
Sushi King. Sushi King is beside
TGIF. Whenever I go to Digital Mall sure drop by that shop...

yes, our southern neighbours are quite up to date - some more got small AWACS
we also not bad ma - got Su-30, Mig-29, F-18. Only our older stuff a bit wonky.... but used daily for years. I remember seeing the Nuri's almost on a daily basis when I pass by the Sg. Besi Airbase.
Hey I remember when the Thunderbirds were in town - all the traffic on the Subang Airport road stopped to see the airshow! yes, a long time ago...
