Dear Lancerians,
We would appreciate it if members can post in English for the official threads. Most of us understand Bahasa Malaysia. But this forum is accessible worldwide and members/guests from other countries may not understand Bahasa Malaysia.
As long as members can post in simple English and get the message across, this would be good enough. Members are allowed to add-in a few words/phrases in other languages either to 'compliment' or to make the post more 'lively'.
We are not restricting members from using Bahasa Malaysia entirely but for topics that aren't in Mamak Place, English is still a preferred language.
After all, this forum is about car and friendship.
Thank you for your cooperation. Let’s work together to make Lancerzone an internationally acclaimed car forum.

No problem Mam, English it is...
Yes, the criticalness of the demographic of the current members call for an easy and very transparent communications to all. We at LGTC supports the notion of the brand to be more global and also interactive.
Given this platform, I am sure LGTC will 'leap froged' itself to a more firmed and stable position.

What are "official threads"?
Personally, I appreciate this move... haven't visited this forum for a few days now due to some threads I had been interested in going down the toilet (for me and subjectively speaking) because the banter in these threads were beyond my understanding due to the slang used there.

I personally think that as Malaysians we should be proud of our language. This is what makes us Malaysian, to be able to speak in our language. It is nothing wrong to communicate in our language, be it in everyday life or even in this forum of ours. And it does not mean a bit that we leave "international recognition" aside. The French are proud of their language and I think so should we. I think that it is better for us to speak our language than speaking/communicating in English in this forum when all our languages are screwed up by grammatical errors and "local slang". If international recognition is what we are looking for here, then we should not tolerate "slang" which at the end of the day will ruin the English language itself. Not only will we not achieve the international recognition, we will be seen as a nation/people that pollutes the language. This will bring more harm to us at the end of the day.

uhm .. this is just my POV ...
i think most of us here is not having a problem in communicating in english as a medium between the forumers .. but im in a full support for what madon just said. ... if this forum is asking for the international recognitions ... then the mods should not tolerate the used of slang/accent in this forums .....
btw ... if we're going to the other forums ... like evolutionm.net they used their own style of english .. with some word is hardly for a person like me to understand .. not to say the word spelling part .. some of them i cant even understand ....
... and even our famous ZTH .... i believe the mods there are not saying anything which related to the used of bahasa as part of their post unless the title of the thread is stating english only (correct me if im wrong)..... even in their public/official threads...
it just ... for me ... this forum would be less interesting if too much rules to be implemented which im afraid ... it will looks more plain n dull ........ when everyone hafta use the so called international language as part of their post ...
i think its become to the common sense of other members to use our malay language appropriately in certain condition/times only .... if other members which can't fully understand on that person post.. i believe a lot of us is more than happy to translate to the person.... and that will show how good this forumers would be in helping each other ...
just my 2 sen ............

not saying u cant post malay or chinese or tamil here...we still can... in mamak threads
madon. like u said when we post in english here... we includes our slang and 'Malaysia Taste' in our post. All the spelling error, grammar, all those. thats why you said its better to post in BM?
honestly i've seen some posts in BM, which i have absolutely no clue what is it about. Is it my BM understanding fail? or their ability to post a proper BM fail?

Singapore's identity is that it is a more developed country than Malaysia and quite a few other Asian countries.
Malaysia does not need to be special by maintaining a language that is not recognized as a world standard for business or for pleasure.
Going back to my previous comment (in case you didn't get it); this forum doesn't need to be "international" (whatever that means). It just needs to be accessible and understandable by as many folks as the administrator of this forum wishes.
It depends on what the administrator wants, of course.
PS. FYI, I'm Japanese. I type better English than I do speaking it. I also understand English better than my native tongue. Having spent 3.5 years here in Malaysia as a result of my father's excpatriation to Malaysia, I have had to struggle to understand the language barrier and cultural difference in my everyday life. If this forum is to be reserved for "true" Malaysians only, I suppose there's no real worry... I'll just head on elsewhere.

I believe we're talking about this forum being more accesible than it is right now. I'm not with the club right now so I'm not sure where the club and forum (difference) stands.
Don't you club members want this club to be more accessible and read in the only language recognized as international?

Dear Brother Jaz,
Its not that we do not wanna appreciate our own language dude, but in this club we have all races like indian, chinese and others.
If we use our daily language too much in the forum, somethimes, some of our chinese and indian friends cannot follows or understands the issue we are discussing in the thread. So if we use english or even broken english our chinese and indian friends can still understand. So we could get more feedback and opinion from more members.
This is not some sort of discrimination or what not, this is only to make sure everyone in this precious forum happy and the info shared is beneficial to everyone. We understood and appreciate ur opinion that other country have their own lancer club with their own language, but try to think positively if we have more global member, all of us can have the benefit by getting their info or opinion.
Kesian to some member who wish to read more on a particular thread but they dont understand, lets give them opportunity to give their thought and opinion as well okay brother.

Nov 26 2009, 01:35 PM
To post in English or BM... It really does not matter but if you were to post in BM, it will surely reflect us as being unique and special. How many Lancer forums out there are in English? And how many in BM? And how many in other languages? Go figure. Bahasa Melayu once were the "Lingua Franca" back in the old Melaka days, I do not understand why it is restricted now to be used in this forum by means of not being "international" enough. I think one should be given the independence to post in which ever language, be it in English or BM which is common/understandable to the whole nation.
To gain international recognition is a whole new issue altogether... And for that, I strongly believe that for it to be achieve, "slangs" should be eliminated, grammars corrected and language unpolluted. Then and then only, we will not be seen as wannabies that tries to speak the language without appreciating it. And maybe just then, we will gain the international recognition that we all crave here.

It is interesting to note that all the members' signatures in this forum consist almost certainly entirely in the English Language...
In any case... I believe you guys have intermittent/random meetups, right? Why not talk in whatever language you want during the meetups and, instead, post in English here in this forum?
I still don't quite understand why some members here object to this anouncement by the Forum Administrators. I think anyone that visits this forum will know that this isn't any regular public forum... they'll probably realize it's some Asian forum anyway i.e. a closed community.
I post online in English 99% of the time while I speak Japanese 99% of the time. That's just the way I have learned to accept and agree with.

Please read my first post again. The forum Administration team didn't restrict the use of BM but announced that English will be the main language in the forum except in Mamak Place.
Your freedom of speech isn't taken away at all, you are still welcome to comment in BM if need be but please be mindful of other readers. Not everyone understands Tamil, Mandarin, Cantonese, Teow Chew and etc...but all of us understand English.
Lately, there's too much of bahasa pasar in the forum and it doesn't make us look unique it drives away a lot of members coz they don't understand what it means.
Again this is an announcement and not an open forum for debate.

FYI those forum are owned by the club I believe. Lancerzone is independent from the LGTC.
no need to get heated up over something like this, proper BM posts are still acceptable and members should b helpful enough to translate them if needed.
However, if anyone finds a post with slang and weird shortcuts which is too hard to read, please report it in so that it gets translated or removed, depending on the content of the post.
