Lancer GT Club buys wheels and groceries for the disabled
PETALING JAYA - Dec 30, 2007 - What better way to end 2007 than by remembering the needy? The 4-month-old Lancer GT Club (www.lancergtclub.com) has been meeting regularly for teh-tarik sessions, meeting at workshops, DIY car sessions, trips and convoys to different locations around Malaysia. Apart from many exciting events, LGTC also huddles up members to participate in charity work.
LGTC managed to collect enough funds to buy Beautiful Gate, a home for the disabled, groceries to last for more than a month and 2 detachable wheelchairs, costing RM1200 each. The members met the day before at a local hypermarket with a grocery list from the home and purchased the items. The next day, 12 Lancers made its way to the home at SS2, Petaling Jaya.
About 20 members, friends and family were present with the groceries and their donations. There, they were greeted by the staff and about 40 residents at the home. The members mingled among the residents and we were briefed by Pastor Sia Siew Chin (who is also disabled) about the objective and activities of the home. They were then taken for a tour around the premises.
Tana Terence, LGTC President handed over a mock cheque amounting to RM2400 for the 2 detachable wheelchairs to Pastor Sia who manages the home. He expressed his thanks to the members for their generosity and support and said that the club will be trying its best to do its bit for charity.
Beautiful Gate caters for physically disabled persons who suffer from polio, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and those with congenital disabilities. Concepts of independent living are used to train the disabled to live independently. Beautiful Gate depends on charitable support from the public for the upkeep of all their homes and their programs.
