Bros Nick277 and Economist,

as a subscriber to Astro Byond, the available HD channels are only 5 channels for the moment. The remaining non-HD channels that is offered on standard or various subscriptions are still available ka? Of course these channels will not be broadcasted in HD format. But are they viewable (albeit being in non-HD format) or are these non-HD channels completely blocked?

yes only 5 channels for now but there are more wil be launched in the near future form what i heard and posted.

basically it works like this. u still have all the channels u used to have on the same channel numbers (depending on what package u subscribed). then you get additional channel numbers for HD. which means i have HBO as well as HBO HD. NatGeo as well as NatGeo HD etc etc.

The RM20 you pay is for the HD channels. However to get lets say for example the Astrosport HD channel, you need to be subscribed to the sports package. i.e. you need to have the SD channel subscribed before you can view the HD channel.

hope this helps... cheers

Just joined the beyond wave today, facing the same problem as bro Economist, audio is very soft on SD channel, must be a bugs as my neighbours also faced the same situation.

The same problem does not exist if audio via amp.

Seems like the bugs can be fixed by updating the decoder.

2) for audio settings only can set to analogue n not dolby..if set to digital the HD channels no sound...takkan my LCD dont support? using LG42FR......ter, can verify this?
econ.. don't you read the manual book? it is said that digital sound can only be achieve through SPDIF connection to an external amplifier/speaker system that has SPDIF support function.. if u have one, just simply connect a single RCA cable and enable the digital sound..

QUOTE(Nick277 @ Dec 29 2009, 10:23 AM) *
thx. at the time of your posting i already have my astro installed. i opted to use composite video cables. So i have the main LCD connected using HDMI for HD video and the other 3 LCD using composite video (RCA cables) stretching 15m, 18m, and 23m. Got a composite video amplifier/splitter for RM85 and it works well after tests done yesterday. I can only watch SD quality on the composite video connections but it looks better than RF cable.. i think. Now i need to look for a wireless IR repeater for the remote... :s
(1) - i told u on SB yesterday ma haha. many said this too in LYN. this is cos u using HDMI cable i think.
(2) - ermm.. tak tau. must read LYN liao. lol
nick, have u found the solution to extend the HDMI cable?.. maybe u can try this.. Giraffeâ„¢ HDMI Single-Link Module Kit.. they said can extend up to 100m at 1080p..

Astro launches B.yond PVR

BY SHAUN HO

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro has launched its B.yond PVR (Personal Video Recorder), which allows subscribers to record, pause, rewind and play television programmes broadcast by Astro.

"This service is available immediately and we expected 100,000 out of our targeted 500,00 HD (high-definition) subscribers to upgrade their service," said Astro CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan at the launch here Tuesday.

Current Astro customers will need to pay an installation fee of RM300 for the new unit and return their old sets. New customers will have to pay RM400.

Customers who choose to upgrade to the service have two options - buy an external hard-disk drive to plug into their standard B.yond HD decoder or upgrade to B.yond PVR.

They will need to pay RM5 for the first option, and RM10 for the second option, monthly, for the recording service.

The product will replace Astro’s previous foray into personal video recording, Astro Max, which was launched to limited customers in 2006.

"There are about 26,000 Astro Max subscribers, and we are offering to swap their units with the PVR for free.

"We will also give them a one-year subscription for free," Rohana added.

Astro chief operating officer Henry Tan said currently, only one model of external hard disk was compatible with the standard B.yond box, the Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB.

He said a list of retailers selling the item can be found on Astro’s website.

Astro also launched three new HD channels, which will be available from June 16, bringing the total number its HD channels to eight.

Do U know where can I get cheapest HDMI splitter (1 HDMI to 2 HDMI) and 10m HDMI cable?

PS: So that I can watch HD from astro beyond in both Full HDTVs in my bedroom and living room.
I dont mind watch same channel in both TV.
Currently I use RF converter wt coaxial cable (mean that no HD in one TV, another is HD)
