Chocjunkie
Hi,

I couldn't find the right topic area to share this, thus decided to just mention it in here and hopefully the Administrator will tag it to the right place.

I wanted to share that my GT was broken into today at Midvalley during dinner hour. Was parked at B2, Centre Court where it's highly densed and brightly lit and was about 2 rows away from the elevator entrace. I didn't realise anything was amiss till halfway through driving at Kerinci Link I felt as if the rear passenger window was not properly closed. After fiddling a bit with all the buttons, I felt a strong draft and was tempted to stop and check but then thought it was kinda stupid to do it in the middle of the highway in the dark.

Only at the toll, did I noticed that the triangular part of the window was totally smashed, and there was glass on the seats. Panic striken, managed to meet up with friends to check out whatever else damage there was.

Verdict:

They definitely managed to enter the car as they took my smelly gym bag from the boot. Nothing else was touched even the touch and go...surprisingly. I gathered the alarm scared them off, and they took whatever they can. Other than that and the window, all looks intact. Not sure whether motive was to steal car or the stuff in car coz I don't have anything lieing around except the boot.

I know this things happen anywhere and random y, but it bums the hell out of me coz I feel so violated. Sigh. verymad.gif

So ladies and gents, just be more vigilant as there are desperadoes out there.
LancerInspired
shit... thats the thing with new car, always be careful. I strongly suggest you report to the mid valley car park management too so that those guards will be more vigilant. I can imagine how desperate these sxxkers are that they break in even in the car park which is so brightly lit up.
Digitalase
I think you should post that into Announcement?
alxand_mitsubishi
time to rethink on security film liao...
J195
Whoaa... Mid Valley also so bad security ??!!

In the old days, they only broke the window if there is some valuable on the seats. Now they break to see what is in the boot.

Security film is good, but it cost a lot for replacement too if it was broken. Furthermore, the power window bracket plus motor may be damaged if they push the unbroken window hard (bec they can't break the window with security)

Digitalase
I wonder is it fine and ok if you replace it with warranty? YOu can always try your luck!!

I thought Midvalley security is ok. I do always see security guards around, unless they were the culprits?
I must becareful now.
Sigh, i have always think that Midvalley is safe.

Do tell us about your progress on the replacement bro.
All the best

hmm...bl8786dy ruckers...

Chocjunkie,

Yes, you shud make a police report and report to MidVal management and see if MidVal's secu cameras pick up anything. If lucky, the cameras id the thefts, then hav better chance to id the fellows and catch them nxt time.

Nowadays, even britely lited and secu guarded places r no guaranty safe. The Bangla secu get paid rm500 a month wont risk their lives for u...they r for show only lah. Some dun even call 999 if something happen.

I think it is fine as this is the news section, the announcement site is more of for site changes.

Chocjunkie,

Do let us know whats the outcome on the replacement. Kinglim is right as you should take action so that the management of mid valley will be more aware.

darn.. i park in midvalley everyday!

i believe they did not trigger the alarm. What they would have done is break the small triangular window, pull down the back seat and gain access to your boot. Your gym bag was probably the only thing within accessible range.

Security film won't do much especially if they target the small triangular window. It would just not shatter, but still break off. Get a proper aftermarket alarm. If the alarm is triggered, they will not stick around as people start looking at your car. I've had experiences where i accidently set off my alarm and the security guys on bikes are on the spot within a few minutes giving me blank stares as if i was trying to steal my own car!
Digitalase
I try to place ALL BAGS in boot. Try to place them before entering a car park, or before you park your car, so that others thieves will not see that you are placing something important in your boot.

When parking, i will not even open my boot(if my laptop bag is in there) due to the above reason as well.

i hav built a habbit to carry my laptop with me all the time but not leave it in the car alone. remember that lost of laptop is minor issue, the info inside the your laptop is valuable asset, maybe more valuable than your GT.

sigh in mid valley also can kena........summore they haf quite a few guards patrolling the area.......

better just report so mgmt is aware...........

prodmar
infinity, doing your job well huh (*sidetracked)

probably make the new owners worried about their car wherever they go..*sien
warnutz
I've noticed that the alarm system doesn't have movement sensors and we don't have panic alarm rite? cos i tried to press the lock button after locking the car to trigger panic alarm like most other cars but no alarm. Well the basic COBRA in most Hondas and Toyotas have the above features.

I tot all windows include the small one should have security film installed ? If you insist, installer won't mind the small effort. Once you have it in place, it will take more minutes to break a smaller glass than the large one.

I have installed WinGard 2in1, if it does not protect all widows I will ask them to refund me. turned.gif

Just a thought, breaking in just to steal a smelly gym beg.......pointers:

1. Some secret admirer like your smell so much so he/she decided to add them to the collection. But this type of abnormal ppl seldom appear locally.
2. Someone is testing Lancer theft-ability. This time could be the Step 01 in a series of attempt. Reprogram alarm passkey if your Lancer have one.

Regarding Type of Alarm vs Theft-ability is totally non-sense.
I have heard new CRV was stolen from IKANO just like that. Ikano has more guards + camera around. yes? Honda has Cobra immobilizer, yes ?

Now i feel that immobilizer has been downgraded to a theft-deterrent device like any other lock.

agreed. Nowadays those bugger don't break glass anymore (for the pros I mean). They can unlock you car anytime and it is just a matter of how long it took for diff kind of alarm.

INSIDE JOB, JUST AS THE CASES IN KLCC.

Latest Update:

- Went to MV yesterday to lodge official report with the security department. They took it seriously, but nothing much can be done except forward the statement to customer service. They didn't allow us to see the CCTV recordings, but from where we can see, the dome cameras were pretty far from the parking space, and it also depends where it was pointing at that time.

- had every shard of glass sucked out, and workshop owner mentioned that he doubt they smashed the window as I had security film. There was a deep dent on the frame, which means they used something to kopek and the inner part probably cracked and finally shattered. So whatever...

- went to Glenmarie today to install the new window. It was kinda disappointing as they only had stock for the window but not the weatherstrip that was gone from the crime sight. God knows why the thieves took that. The new stocks just got on the vessel in Japan and will probably arrive ETA 31 Jan. *shheshh* So, the car will be sitting nicely in my porch for the next few weeks.

Trying to find other jalan...maybe Singapore ada or something.

bro,
at least you help us to be more aware of mid valley now. I used to think it is pretty safe area as can see the security guard ronda here and there. But feel bad for your car, how much did it cost you on the window?

by the way do join our club, we still in need of lady owners to balance out the ratio biggrin.gif
Digitalase
I didn't know Chockjunkie is a sis!!!
J195
Terion,
How about a special tag for lady member ? So that we don't realize at the end :)

Digitalase
Good idea
terion
there's already a option on gender when u register, it will show when u view the person's profile.

however if the member doesn't choose to select a gender (since its optional), then it won't show...
donyong
choc,

what was used was a screwdriver, put at the side of the sill, and push the screwdriver to one end, forcing the glass (even tinted with security film) to compress at one pressure point....

time taken, 1 push or approx. 1 second, and wala, the whole glass in cracked like a dried salt bed lake...

then pull the away glass
