http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...&sec=nationTwo price structures for petrol from May 1
PETALING JAYA: There will be two price strucutures for petrol from May 1 - one for Malaysians and another for foreigners - Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said on Thursday.
For Malaysians, the price of petrol will also be based on engine capacity, which means that not all would be entitled to subsidised fuel, he added.
“
Not all Malaysians will get the fuel subsidy, which should by right be given to those earning less,” he said.
Ismail said those eligible for the fuel subsidy would be able to buy fuel based on the current prices while those who are not eligible for it, will have to pay the market price.
“For RON95 petrol, the Goverment’s subsidy is 30sen per litre now. The current price of RON95 petrol is RM1.80 compared to the actual price, which is RM2.10.
“So, Malaysians who are not eligible for the subsidy and also non-citizens will have to pay RM2.10 or more,” he added.
Ismail said further details on the new fuel price mechanism would be announced on May 1.

the only way they can chk the subsidy is based on the car's cc i think... so if u have 2 cars, say a kancil and a mercedes 320S... will u be able to use the kancil which is subsidized to pump cheaper petrol in the merc?
and to know who u are, most probably will be involving the use of MyKad for those paying cash and tie in to your credit card if using cc...
this is what i think they will do la... seems the most probable...

You are right, I wonder how they can put this proposal in practice. If it is merely based on the engine capacity of the car, then anyone can bring a kancil to fill up and then transfer the petrol back to their 'luxury' car.
IMHO, it is never wise for any garmen to practice double standard on its own people. Rich or poor, they're still Malaysians. If garmen is giving subsidy, then all rightful citizen of the country should reap its benefit. Don't forget the rich pay more in taxes and now they are being penalized?
I say just remove the garmen subsidy once and for all. For those who are really poor and need petrol subsidy, they should apply to a certain Garmen dept. Upon approval only then these people will get their rebate at the end of the month.
May? That's still a long way off. Anything can happen...... Remember the scrapping of old vehicle proposal?

PS: One more thing, I don't mind paying the market price petrol if the Garmen scrap the import tax of all foreign vehicles. Lancer cost RM60k before import tax. We pay RM120k. That's almost a saving of RM60k I can use to pay market price petrol.

But what if you're driving an old junk with big cc. The car probably cost less than 5k and he will not be entitled to the subsidy.

All vehicles is registered to an individual. Each Msian has a valid IC and this is where they'll be able to identify the type of car or c.c. yr vehicle is. I think if u have few vehicles under yr name, then very likely u'll not qualify for any rebates as it would seemed you are well off except if you owned a multiple bikes!
I am unsure whether there'll be terminal placed at each station to check yr eligibility. But i know the rebates will be managed by our local bank as there is on-going IT involved. Bad news for all most us is that we are likely to qualify for the lowest rebate as any 2000 cc above will not get rebates. Rebates is paid based on tiering system.
This is all i can share.

Anything about taking more money from our pocket that gov planned, will be successful, and actually the devices and the system already up and running, it will be based on our MyKad, i've seen the devices before in BHP petrol station kepong, when asked, they said the system under testing, and that was 4 months ago.
Our gov being stupid from day to day.

hmm ... dun know why they want to implement those complicate system and double standard. That's going to be a lot of loop holes. If they want to help the poor, provide rebate.

Hhahahahaahha.. or employment confirmation letter from company.
Anyway, think positive guys. I more or less agree on this approach. Its been implemented in develop europeans countries anyway. Its a less burden to the poor/middle class people. (hope the 2.0 still consider not a big car) Same like the roadtax implementation. I just wanna wait how the 'implementation' gonna be. Either its gonna be hilarious or smart thinkin way.
cheers

European countries don't impose ludicrous import tax on foreign vehicles and they have the option to go 'green' with plenty of hybrid models to choose from.
