Full Version: Can Proton BLM trash Lancer GT?

I have a feeling it can. Of course, with some modifications.

What do you guys think? No more torque dip, power/torque as good as a wira 1.5, and maybe lighter than Vios.

i don't thinks so..brO.. with 1.3 liters engine under the hood may be only can smell GT smoke brO heheh biggrin.gif
alxand_mitsubishi
well with 1.3 turbo i think they will have a better lift off but not for long... but since this is savvy derived body it'll be quite heavy too... with no clear crumble zone but merely heavy metal i think it will give our GT a heavy exterior injury if both were to crash together, with GT driver alive with blm seriously injuered :)
Skadi

I saw the BLM under construction at the Curve yesterday. Looks like got a very small crumple zone in the front but I'm not sure. confused.gif Anyway the BLM's ground clearance is very high and the tires are relatively narrow. Maybe with a turbo or super charger it might briefly out accelerate the GT but I doubt the handling would be nearly as good.

Rite now, its a 1.3. When will the 1.6 come? The 1.6, 125bhp, 153Nm is very promising. Just mod with iridium plugs, LCP, Raizen (volt, ignition, spark) and K&N drop in, wud give abt 135bhp, 160Nm thereabts, hentam r3 back exhaust, 145bhp 165Nm at a kerb weight of 975kgs...

I'm sure can, plus all the mods would come under RM3K...

haven't tok abt piggy back, extractor upgrade.....175bhp and 170Nm for a 1.6 BLM is very possible....
terion
if that's the case it won't be a fair comparison, do the same mods for the Lancer, then we'll see whoops.gif
Skadi

Even with all those mods the handling will still be poor compared to the Lancer simply because the BLM is on a different platform. In real road conditions the Lancer might come out tops provided the driver is good.

agreed with u brO.. biggrin.gif
zahang
yeap.. like my fren gen2... jaafar made exhst.. HKS air filter.. R3 computer box.. easily can tail my ass with 1.6 MT... (the ride with 18" rim oso) but this fella mod his gen2 for a "race" for $$$ hehehe

freddie
with all those performance mod, the BLM might stand a chance... ONLY IF it doesnt fall apart after 200km/h. haha...

Here are some analysis, at least on paper, before MODIFICATIONS for a 1.6 variant if it ever comes to market. Plus, as reported by PaulT, 1.6 Campro (IAFM module - 125 bhp, 153 Nm). Assume kerb weight 975kgs like vios for now, till we get the specs.

BLM - 1bhp to power 7.8 kg of weight
Lancer - 1bhp to power 9.23 kg of weight
BML - 1Nm to pull 6.37kg of weight
Lancer - 1Nm to pull 6.92kg of weight

On paper, BLM > Lancer.

Proof.
Power (bhp)
BLM Lancer
Kg 975 1385
Power 125 150
Ratio 7.8 9.233333333
(Kg to 1 Bhp)

Torque (Nm)
BLM Lancer
Kg 975 1385
Nm 153 200
Ratio 6.37254902 6.925
(Kg to 1 Nm)

Okey. What will the weight of BLM be for the ratios to be the same as Lancer?

For power to match, BLM has to be 1150kg (kerb)
For Nm to match, BLM has to be 1059kg (kerb)

Must also remember, BLM cannot compare with the Iswara which is dated technology and construction method. Proton said that 75% of the BLM is high tensile steel & Lotus ride and handling (which is proven with waja, gen2, Neo).

We'll wait and see. Wait for someone with 1.6BLM to slap the lancer GT with a glove...
terion
hey donyong, are u jumping ship to the BLM? unsure.gif
alxand_mitsubishi
yeah... it does looks n sounds better in power chart comparison :)
donyong
No la. I'm sked of the new 1.6 Campro IAFM engine and its potential.
desmond
All I have to say is......Bring them on......and I'm sure Ben and madsurgeon will have the same thought too.

We have tested on an Altis 1.6cc VVTI and the result is......being smoked by Terion.
alxand_mitsubishi
well one thing i know even before the gen 2 was launch, then campro was suppose to be a very good engine, they comes with vvt, vms but on production all these was out of action n the campro was not even a campro as in camshaft profile, only one profile which sucks at FC n power only at high rev, hope they will intro a better version now, which i doubt it would be in BLM, as source told me the reimproved campro will be in new waja supposely this or next year.. while gen2 will have a minor upgrade, with new real campro, power will be felt much earlier n no noeed rev like mad dog to get the power on wheel...
terion
oh that was a 1.6 only ar? thought it was a 1.8...

anyway have seen campro gen2s with superchargers... damn kau fast sweat.gif
silvermask97
demoralize by previous 2 units proton cars already.. turned.gif
freddie
hahah... terion talks like chinese gangster. :)

basically a good supercharger can add about 20-30 hp. i am not surprised to see a supercharged gen2 runs faster than lancer at certain speed.

but i have seen supercharged car lag badly in pickup though... or was that an isolated case? could that be the supercharger hasnt kicked in? whereas the turbine compressor actually blocked air-intake when it's not active?
terion
influenced by alxand already tongue.gif
InfinityGT
just curious. Why would one person want to buy a BLM and mod it to be fast? Ain't the platform and ride are not built for that? Its a waste of money. If want speed then better of aiming other lighter car and shoved it with turbo engine. Power on paper doesn't do any good as well. Cars speed will be affected by weight of the driver, aero dynamic, suspension and strength of the body.

Waiting for Proton BLMs to come to life, waiting for the day when R3 comes out with all sorts of upgrades and other mods by other performance enthusiasts.

A car for the masses means a car for more wannabee racers...don't pray2.
prodmar
i think Neo is the ONE to trash the gt
donyong
Neo kerb weight 1250kg...saga better...

I got smoked today by a Gen2 heavy modded on the KL-Putrajaya highway. Can hear his exhaust damn loud and the car is damn low...

I was cruising at 180km/h and then suddenly this Gen2 come out of no where....i tried to give chase and reached 200km/h but his gen2 was going like about 240km/h.....sigh!! down.gif
terion
must have been a supercharged campro gen2... confused.gif

ChoyChoy
Hey guys, don't be so cheap la, comparing GT to BLM... Comparing a lousy automotive assembly company to a world class car manufacturer... Because of Proton, we are paying ridiculous price for GT, else we need to pay 70k only and happily mod with anohter 50k!
