Hi guys

My 2010 resolution is to keep my body fit and healthy (hopefully). Besides going to gym/playground for a physical workout (and also wash eye..hehe!!) I have come across this heart rate/fitness level monitoring device called Polar. Its basically a watch which has many functions like monitoring heart rate, calories, training guide, etc etc...

Do check out the website at www.polarusa.com.

My questions is :-
1. Is there any outlet in Malaysia which carries a wide range of this product? (so far I only seen it selling at Subang Parade fitness store). Will go around more to look for this product as the sales guy in Subang Parade seems like not really understand the product much.
2. Which model would be most suitable for a newbie like me who just want to stay fit and healthy (more into cardio workout only). I'm not into those 3-4 days per week exercise person.
3. Is it worth getting this product?

JL,hope you are seeing this thread. Notice you are into mountain biking and maybe you also have this watch. biggrin.gif Any advice?

Thanks in advance to all fitness guru's here 2404_worship.gif

Thanks for assisting to look out for me.
I have not heard on the brand Suunto but will definately check it out too.

Think Polar is quite popular these days. I've seen them advertising in the Biggest Loser Asia show too.

Aaron, Suunto is a very good brand. Polar is not bad too as I have quite a number of runner friends are using it.

Usually you use it to measure your heartbeat, knowing your limit (there is a formula to calculate your max) and knowing how much to push.
You can find out your optimal heart beat rate at running at esp useful when you run long distance.
There is also two other devices apart from the polar watch, which is the chest belt and the shoe device.
The belt you use to strap around your chest (like bra) and it measures your heart beat.
The shoe thing is to sense your stride and measure the distance. So you can have lots of info shown on the wrist watch. All 3 devices are use in tandem (via bluetooth) after calibrating as close as possible to the real distance (KM).

I'm using cateye.. one of the cheapest brand, you can get from bicycle shop try KSH taman tun or SS2/5, Sammy Batu Caves

Polar you can try at one adventure shop Bangsar same row with McD

Timex also have now, I have seen at Pertama Complex watch shop

Suunto - you can record altitude also and some model you can download the workout data to your computer. You will have some sort of graph showing time with your heard rate and altitude (good for MTB)... I think JL should have this kind of gadget.

Finally it is up to you what kind of workout and data require to you, simple just HR, calories burn or complecated with altitude, bike cadane, bike speed, download data etc. Some also can link to Threadmill, no need to hold your hand to the bar all the time.

Good to know your HR during workout, you can monitor %HR from your Max HR

I use the Nike C6 and it has served me well for the past 2 years. Polar and Suunto watches provides you with a tonof information. The question is, do you need it? You can find polar at KSH down in TTDI. Suunto watches are available at a climbing shop down in Ss2, same row as Sri Siam
