Hello there LGTC techies biggrin.gif

I'm bumping this thread to get opinions on iPad vs Galaxy Tab. Of course there are other tablets computer in the market but the most sought after are these two.

A few friends of mine bought the iPad. I kinda like it but to me it's more or less a bigger version of iPhone. It's quite a head turner to say the least. People who carry it around look so...classy (or lansi?) laugh.gif tongue.gif The screen resolution is just superb. So far nothing can beat Apple on the resolution just yet. Not even HTC, Blackberry and Nokia (the mobilephone line) IMHO.

It is however has several drawbacks that I noticed:
1. It doesn't support flash (at least not factory fitted)
2. It doesn't come with a camera (or 2 cameras in G/Tab's case)
3. It's size is bigger

As for G/Tab, one thing that captured my attention was its OS. It's running on Android 2.2 (FroYo) - upgradeable to 3.0. As an Android fan, I believe the OS is simply superb. It can do what iPad can. And of course it supports flash and java (plus point for those who like to watch live streaming TV like tonton.com.my or BBC news online). It has 2 cameras. But it'll look funny if you make/answer a call from it as it is HUGE compared to a normal phone teehee.gif. It is however, doesn't make you look classy as compared to iPad. Come to think of it, do people buy iPad because it makes them look sophisticated? (pun unintended). I don't know.

Ok, don't want to write much more. If you guys have any other opinions (pros or cons) on either gadgets, please feel free to pen it down here. So, Sean, Falcon, Whitey, the rest, come come. Please give me your utmost honest opinion of the two. biggrin.gif thumbsup.gif

And guess what? Just found out that HTC came out with its own tablet called HTC Flyer. Interesting!
Economist
actually if u compare within ANDROID tablets itself u will have a tough time choosing alredi...this year there are prob more than 100 models of anrdoid tablets that will be launched

i tried galaxy tab for close to 20 mins....i still find some lag on the UI...even web browsing.....maybe due to the flash intensive sites i visited (purposely to test since can support flash)

just remember samsung releases its products so fast , each product lifespan is so short...u need to think of the aftermarket support available........

I read you there Econs. I think you're right on the aftersales support. Moreover it's samsung... tongue.gif

Yeah I've played with gTab also. And I feel the screen is not as sensitive or responsive as iPad. You need to press slightly harder compare to iPad. I also don't favour much on the home screen. It is easily touched and you're diverted from the screen you're at. Quite paiseh with that. rolleyes.gif

Butthe plus point is the size. smile.gif

I've been reading tentatively on HTC Flyer. It's not available yet here. Shall not comment here. Will open a dedicated thread once it's on sales.

Xoom is motorola right? Frankly speaking, when it comes to Android OS, I would prefer a company which has close collaboration with it, and it is none other than HTC. Probably other companies might have invented a product with an upgrade/latest version of the OS but when it comes to support (official and unofficial), HTC still stand tall among the rest. What I mean unofficial is the online tech junkies who sometimes can give better support than the company's. Eg, the XDA dudes.

Sorry TS for OT a bit. biggrin.gif

galaxy tab memang sucks. the color of the screen look so faked.

Dell Streak no bad at all, but too bad, 5" simply too small.

Playbook.... macam indefinite...

lets see what Apple answer to its own iPad with iPad 2
Economist
ipad2? disappointment or?????? doesnt seem that great IMHO

now worth to get ipad...super duper cheap as compared to others
shah25
The thing about Apple is that they like to introduce things piece meal down.gif A revolution to them might be ancient tech for others.

I just wanna see when will they introduce iPad with phone functions like Tab and Flyer.
shah25
Ooppss, just read about iPad2. they have already introduced the camera and phone functions. Now everybody can look silly when making calls on their tablets tongue.gif

No USB??? Hmmmm...I'm biased towards HTC. I would definitely choose Flyer over iPad2 for now. Unless I want to look lansi, I will get myself an iPad la of course. Hahahaha.
gooner07
tumpang lalu, bros..

i heard that new iPad users since Feb 16 can get a refund of USD100 or return it for iPad 2! Now, did i hear this correctly? But this sounds like a good deal for the users who just got their hands on the first version iPad.

And what do you guys think about Blackberry Playbook? It seems that it also does wonders...and guess what, they also have face-to-face conversation, 1GHz dual core, high-speed connection, and it connects wirelessly with your blackberry. Now I'd pick playbook anytime over iPad cause i think iPad is just... overrated.

B0N0
Theres optional device, Ipad to USB & ipad to SDCard in apple store. Not sure if ist 2way or just importing, as it shows example of connection to camera. Import image or video from camera / sdcard and edit in ipad
WhiteSurfer
If going the Android path...the only copycat tablet I would consider is Motorola Xoom. It has about the same horsepower as iPad2 but price would be higher than the iPad 2. Surprised?? Dont be because all these are new players so they cannot match the price of iPads.

And one more thing.....when are all these Flyer / Xoom / Playbook coming to Msia ? I have heard stories and seen the youtube videos but are they actually shipping product ? Or are they still waiting for Honeycomb aka 3.0 ?
shah25
Not sure about Flyer. HTC just launched it in the US and EU. I called HTC dictributor here. They also have no clue. I guess should be mid this year la.

About Xoom and Playboy Playbook, my guess is as good a yours.

Another thing about iPad2, it has no USB la whitey.... Tak beshhhh. And I did make a quick live comparison between Tab and iPad. iPad wins by a mile la on the touch screen. Apple always in the lead in that area. The rest, i think are just the same.
WhiteSurfer
Thas what I meant...the OS maybe isnt ready for large screen. 3.0 might change that.

For me its simple. I would follow a product from a company that innovates not just "pak turut". It gives me more confidence as a package.

A company that started fingertips touchscreen phone compared to stylus touchscreen > iPhone
A company that dared to introduce tablets to the mass marketv( forget about Kindle ) > iPad

Sure there are missing features from iPad/iPhone such as USB and SD card slot but there are adapters for these just that it cost more money to get. biggrin.gif
But looking at Apple's philosophy they will always make gadgets with as little connectors as possible because wireless is the way forward. That dock connector for charging will be gone soon....wireless everything.

I guess it boils down to choosing a well and truly tested package vs an upcoming system aka Android with all the different possible permutations of hardware.

2011 - YEAR OF THE TABLET or we call also say YEAR OF LANSINESS biggrin.gif

the new iPad has made its greatest competitor gone back to the drawing board biggrin.gif

http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/04/samsun...ad-2-unveiling/

QUOTE
South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reports (via AsiaPulse) that Apple's iPad 2 introduction has forced Samsung to reconsider its plans for its forthcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1, a larger version of its initial 7-inch Galaxy Tab that is intended to offer a more similar form factor to the iPad. According to a Samsung executive, the company is looking to improve the specs of the device to be more competitive with the iPad 2.

Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, said that Apple has presented new challenges for the South Korean company with a thinner mobile gadget that is priced the same as its predecessor.

"We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate," Lee told Yonhap News Agency. "Apple made it very thin."
But technical specs are not the only issue facing Samsung with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as the company also must address pricing issues that currently will make it difficult for the device to compete against the iPad 2.

The 7-inch Galaxy Tab was priced at nearly US$900 without a two-year contract from mobile operators, while the price of the iPad 2 starts at $499, with the most expensive model costing $829. Samsung did not announce the pricing details for the 10.1-inch tablet.

"The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the 7-inch (tablet) but we will have to think that over," Lee added.
Apple made a number of references to the tablet competition during its iPad 2 introduction earlier this week, making a point to illustrate Apple's hardware and software head start and pricing advantages over competitors' offerings. Apple's iPad 2 comes to market even as some competitors have yet to begin shipping their first round of tablet devices announced in some cases many months ago.
