if you are buying recond performance car... you can bring that car to Motor Image (Subaru) Auto Enginuity (Subaru, Evo, GTR) for diagnostic test & other check with minimum charge.

bro.. another useful site for you to check before buying unreg/used car:-

http://www.japan-partner.com/check-manufacture-year.php

sometime the importer easily can do over / under declare the manufacturer year over the AP

Another important things :- test drive, ask your trusted mechanic/workshop to check for you

level27 - since buying recond must get from authorised AP holder - there are some cases of fake APs out there and may be worthwhile checking validity of AP and always insist on a copy of it during purchase.

also paying for repairs is quite normal since it is a second hand car and some parts are worn down.

if you're really worried go for one of the big names like Naza who provide a slightly longer warranty and peace of mind on AP. of course there's a premium.
