ok guys.. i am not always online ..
but whenever i am free.. i'm gonna do short write up on the following:
1. Frequencies - done
2. Repeater (simplex vs repeater)
3. Antenna (unidirectional, yagi, j-pole.. etc)
4. SWR
5. what you need to know abt sitting for RAE
6. commercial radio club ( for those who is too lazy to sit for exam .. just pay membership ..)
7. morse codes (believe me .. it is easier than you think)
8. mobile setup & home setup (base)
all these subject are widely available on the internet..
but i am gonna discuss from laymen / LGTC point of view..
ok .. let jump to the 2nd topic .. Repeater...
In essence.. repeater does one thing .. i.e .. repeat the signal.. hehehe..
Radio signal travel at speed of light ...and it also inherent the characteristic of light .. i.e. move in straight line..
Which means .. in area with lots of buildings / hills / mountain / Lancer GT .. radio signal won't travel far..
So.. how do we go about to send signal through these buildings / hills / mountain...
This is where repeater come into the picture..
Normally erected on high building or on top of the hill (Genting highland is very popular place for this)
Instead of shooting the signal through building.. across town... the signal now travel up to Genting..for exampla..
Upon receiving the signal .. the repeater transmit the same audio back to surrounding areas...
By doing this.. we eliminates the blockage..
Taking the light analogy... this is like using a mirror to deflect a light thru corner...
Think of it as periscope in submarine...
In a nutshell, a Repeater consist of two radios ( either 2 handy or 2 rigs)
1 unit is to receive the signal from the ground... another unit is to transmit it back..
These 2 units are connected via a special connector..
Repeater units on buildings can draw electric supply from the building..
but those on the hill / mountain .. normally use solar panel as source of power..
oohh.. i almost forgot... what is Simplex..
simplex is a point to point connection...
example.. direct communication between one motorola handy to another handy...
in contrast .. you can transmit thru a repeater.. indirect ( no .. it is not called duplex

)
any questions?
