start backing up whatever data you can.

if it dies, recovery is possible but need expert and specialized tools. so will be expensive.
usually a new hard disk is cheaper.

if not accessible by booting, you can try putting it into usb casing and backing up whatever you can as zen mentioned using another machine.

any unusual sound when HDD is spinning is usually a HDD in its death cry....
