Normally on Motorola boxes they put 5 mile, 6 mile, 8 mile. Uniden put 8 mile. However in reality we all know that all FRS walkie talkies range is limited in urban environment usually 1km or less. Good for convoy only. If u go to deserted place without building maybe further la. The good thing about Uniden in my experience is that the audio is clearer than the Motorolas i have used and tried.

Honestly from my experience, all FRS (FRS uses UHF at 462+ Mhz) walkie talkies have about the same range regardless of what they say on the box (e.g. 5 mile, 8 mile, etc). Reason i believe is because most of us use it in the urban environment where there r many buildings n inteference. There is difference in clearer voice though on some of the units. The speaker is just better. For those i listed above i think the uniden has the clearest voice then followed by both 9500 and tk118 then followed by the T5720.

If range is your priority then you need to skip FRS and go to amateur radio (which uses VHF 143 Mhz range) Those can go a few km or even whole of klang valley if you use a repeater. This one need a license though which you can gte by sitting for an exam.
